rear end rattle

my rearend is making a rattle noise and i'm not sure what it is. It almost sounds like my struts are shot, but i know there not (replaced with tokico blues). Its most noticeable when i'm turning. I checked the fluid in the rearend and it's at the correct level and it's clean. Any ideas? Thanks
Car is a S5 convertible. Thanks

My sugestions is to raise the rear and turn the tires by hand listening for knocking. check the play in the half shafts and the driveline. then run the car with it raised and listen.

It's shaking. I pretty sure it's not the driveshafts. Is it possible that my half shafts are out of balance.

a while ago my vert was doing the same thing. it was driving me nuts. came to find out it was the heat shield banging against my racing beat mufflers.some how it the old hangers had dropped a lil not really noticble but once i installed new ones and sort adjusted the shield by hand to have the clearance the rattling sound was gone

I had a rattling a while back, because one of the mufflers came off it's o ring and was banging against the gas tank, I do however have a squeeking in the back at times though, might be suspensions, not sure.

I think this is definitely a rear end problem. The car will literally shake at around 60mph. The noise in the rear isnt the exhaust, i'm positive.

It might be the rear diff mount is "broken." The one that holds the diff to the rear subframe.

If your car is shaking like an unbalanced tire but on your shifter. You need to pull that driveline out and check your U joints, disconnect the half shafts and check the play on them, and check the rear end. You could have blown the spider gears in that stock rear end (upgrade it). Don't replace one item without making sure the rest is good. It took me a while to figure my shaking out. Turned out to be blown spider gears in the rear end. The shaking blew out my u joints on the driveshaft. I doubt replacing the half shafts did a lot but they did have play and I replaced them as well.

I'm gonna say that it's probably the rear diff mount as well. I had a imilar problem and I found that my front mount was broken. I had a bad vibration and rattle at high RPMs.

Go under your car and take the driveshaft by both hands and see if you can push it up and down if it moves along with the diff it's your front diff mount..which requires you lower the subframe to replace ,also check both of your rear diff mount's the ones on each side.
