Rear end ratio and quarter mile..

Why dont the people who are into the 1/4 mile upgrade to the 4.3 rear end? And how come i never see that in peoples sigs; the 4.3:1 rati., is it 'cuz people never do it? It seems like it would play a significant role in acceleration, especially going from a 3.9:1... ?
I donno, basically what Im askingis why dont more people do this upgrade?

Expensive and difficult compared to the results.

I don't think going from a 4.10 to a 4.33 is going to make that much of a difference in a drag car.

What does this mean?

Well installing a different final drive ratio is a time consuming and difficult task.

because it only fits N/As which are too slow for the track anyways LOL :D :D :D

I don't get the 3.9 thing... is this not the 91 vert in your sig???

If it is the 4.1 came standard on all S5 verts regardless of tranny.

nah, the S5 vert was heavier and the Feds raised the gas guzzler weight level, so Mazda put it accross the board on the verts, just to help the accell a little.

Kenteth 04-13-04 12:10 AM

hmm... interesting (hah) seriously it is

DEZERTE 04-13-04 12:12 AM

No, only the 88 vert came with the 3.9. The 89 came with a 4.1

Because most FC's have a 4.1:1 diff and a 5% shorter ratio is going to make hardly any difference. If you're really into drag racing dropping 5% of the car's weight will have a similar effect for less effort and no money.

yeah I most likely will have some 4.44 gears cut for my vert/t2 rear end. I had 3.90 on my vert and went to 4.10. I did notice a little difference. Not hard to notice a difference when you have like 120rwhp. Anyways
I rode in Kevin landers vert/t2 and he had 4.30 gears and their was a noticable difference I thought. One you will notice right away is higher rpms at 5th gear 70mph driving. Doesn't help you at the pump but higher rpms will help accelaration across the board. I am looking to run 400rwhp with 4.44 gears = just about unbeatable on the street.
