Rear Camber Adjustment
 

I recently bought a 86 gxl. Upon taking it to get inspected, I was told that the alignment was off. I took it to the local alignment shop and they said that they cannot adjust the read camber to get within specs. What do I need to replace in order to get my car's rear suspension within spec. I tried doing a little searching, but I don't find the answer I was looking for.



I'm new to RX-7s, so don't really know where to get these parts, so if you could also include an online shop, I'd greatly appreciate it

You can buy adjustable camber kits. Most alignment shops will tell you the rear is not adjustable. You can visit Mazdatrix.com and look in their suspension section and buy the adjustable links.

Also I would check for any worn suspension parts in there rear. Now would be a good time to change the bushings.

I understand that I can just buy the adjustible camber part, but that's a aftermarket part. I'm guessing that there is excessive camber because something needs to be replaced ( like a control arm). I would rather fix the problem that is causing the camber issue rather than just bandaiding it by getting more adjustible camber part. I guess what I'm asking is what wear and tear item would cause such negative camber in the rear and where can i find this part online?

Do you know how much is it off? Did they give you a print out? That will tell us how much the camber is off. Why don't you bring it back to alignment shop to see what needs to be replaced.

Are you willing to replace them with brand new Mazda OEM parts???

Ted you make a good point, i'm deifnetaly not looking to replace the suspension with OEM parts, I guess my springs are sagging some. I'm looking into getting either the AWR or mazdatrix camber adjusters, but I Don't know which one is better. From what I understand, the Mazdatrix ones are greased filled whereas the AWR are not. From searching these forums, some say that the mazdatrix set leaks and others say that the AWR set makes noise and must be greased almost weekly.

Mazdatrix can do the job.

First check for bent parts. Although they don't directly affect camber the lateral links often get bent.

Then check that the stock camber links are not worn out. They should have no play.

The other main cause of too much camber is a lowered rear ride height.

If the right and left camber does not match, either the car is leaning or something is bent.



That said, the adjustable camber link replacements are primarily racing parts. You should not need that much adjustability. The center camber adjustment link should be all a street car and many racecars need. For my racecar I use the on-car center adjustment link.

I had a similar problem, they said the cam adjusters were frozen up and that they couldnt adjust the camber or somthing. They said I had to by new cams for the rear?

Stay away from those idiots.
Rear camber cannot be adjusted on an FC.
If they are talking about the toe eccentric adjusters, they are still idiots - cause those things only adjust toe and not camber.

You need an aftermarket rear camber adjust rod or adjustable camber links to get the rear camber adjusted.

OK... YOD is putting his 2 cents in here..

1) unless you are racing.. you DO NOT WANT the independantly adjustable camber adjusters... you want this:

it replaces the stock subframe link and adjusts BOTH wheels at the same time. Just get the cheaper one (pictured) where you have to unbolt it to adjust the camber cause it only takes 5 minutes to do it and you don't have to worry about jamb nuts...

2) I put a set of Eibachs prokits on my TII..... supposed to drop it .8 inches.... WELL.... after 18 Years of abuse, the stock springs must have already sagged .5 inches cause ehte car was only .25 inch lower after the eibach's were mounted!!!!!!! (in the back that is... the car had an ass down look when i bought it and the fronts dropped .6 in. after the eibachs)


3) rear camber...... This is how i really know that the springs had sagged... the rear camber was WAY to negative when I bought the car and a bit worse when I put the eibachs on... the mazdatrix (its a racingbeat part for the cheaper one) link fixed that right up!!

Wow, I posted in several places and PMed several people and no one replied so I went ahead and ordered the Mazdatrix individual camber adjusters. I threw her on the lift and nothing looked bent so i'm assuming they are sagging springs (it is a 20 year old car, even though it only has 30k on the clock). I can't wait to get these badboys on, and start having fun :). This car is more fun than awd and it only has 1/3 of the power :).

Well, the individual ones that you ordered allows you to adjust camber independently left versus right.
It's a bit of a pain to dial-in, but it might be a better option for you.
Unless you have really HUGE rear camber problems, those adjusters should work.

I cannot comment on their reliability.
I run a Ground Control rear camber adjust rod - the vertical one mentioned that adjusts both sides at the same time. :)
