ReAmemiya FC2000 Front Cowl

Any info on ReAmemiya FC2000 front cowl ground clearance issues would be greatly appreciated. Would hate to leave $1700 on a speed bump or a driveway incline. Thanks

Cheers! 10-27-03 09:34 PM

um... a speed bump will take out the factory front lip. So the RE-A front end will break as well. Because the front lip from factory sisn't very low to the groun to being with

Real genuine overpriced japenese fiberglass is somehow better than american fiberglass? Mine is not only a Border II replica, but has been modified to be kind of a FC2000 replica. But for only about $400 invested in the front bumper versus $2000 I will take a replica any day. :D

nice car, but i think the RE looks better

j200pruf 10-28-03 01:24 AM

Hey edomund, do you have your car lowered at all. I was thinking about buying a replica from Chuck, but if I am going to hit it on stuff, it would just be a waste.

neofreak 10-28-03 01:44 AM

What makes you think the genuine one is 2k? I got the original back in 2000 when it first came out and it was just around $1600 shipped to my door, the fake is $1000, plus shipping, I don't see where you're saving a whole lot.

Personally I'd rather get the real thing unless I was really saving something.

edomund 10-28-03 01:51 AM

gotdatfiyah Dude get a life.
You have nothing better to post than making fun of me.
How about you keep your rude comments to yourself. I didn't attack you in anyway.

The reason I dont like replicas is because they are the reason no one in Japan wants to import there kits here. Cheap ass people just get the kits and rip them off.
These Amemiya kits have hours of R&D behind them it's not just the FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic) your paying for.
I had mine imported by an Amemiya driver who I spoke with at length in SF.
He pointed out that Mr. Amemiya would rather not ship his kits to US because of these reasons.
Car enthusiats in Japan realize the value of well designed tuner parts unlike many ghetto tuners here.

If we only rippoff kits and parts there will be no one to make the originals to steal.

Those of you who argue against this just dont understand and I'm probably wasting my breath anyway. Thats why there is no aftermarket support for our cars.

From what I've seen and read here, certain aspects of that kit leave a lot to be desired (e.g. lighting) considering the huge price.

I can't see where the value is myself. As the copies have proven, it is just a peice of fibreglass...

j200pruf 10-28-03 03:05 AM

Why would you want to spend more for the "real" thing, when you can get something just as good for cheaper?
And just like NZ said, its just fiberglass.

Don't rip my head off - since I'm relatively new on the Import scene - but didn't you just solve the problem with your post? It's always been this way: people who don't have enough money will make replicas of whatever "product" and rip off the design. It's not against the law - some people do want to save a couple bucks.

If we don't rippoff kits and parts, then no one will know what these "originals" are - since most j-parts makers don't want to ship here. My question is: If Mr. Amemiya doesn't want to ship over his parts because people are ripping them off / etc. Why doesn't he set up a shop over here? If Mr. A is too blind to see that there is an emerging "aftermarket" in America - then imho, his "originals" deserve to be ripped off.

I also don't believe this is the only reason why we have no aftermarket support for our cars. The car markets in Japan are vastly different than the car markets in North America.

j200pruf 10-28-03 11:10 AM

That is exactly what I was thinking.

neofreak 10-28-03 11:33 AM

I had the original here back in 2000, had it shipped over with no problems whatsoever, but once people were talking about making knockoffs of it, I had to sell it, didn't want to have have my car look like everyone else's knockoffs.

If there were a real value in getting a knockoff I'd agree with you guys, but you're not saving a whole lot of money here. Realistically you should get 50% or more off, especially since theres no R&D and the knockoff maker should eat the cost of the mold and the original used to make the copy.

edomund 10-28-03 11:33 AM

First about what nz said about lighting.
It's supposed to be a track font end lighting is only so we can use it legally.

It is super well designed, my under hood temps are super low due to the design of this front end.

uZurper to what you said I told you why he doesn't setup shop here. Us market is a joke.
We would rather buy replica stuff and make shitty home depot TID's and crap like that.

Look what happens everytime someone tries to make quality parts for are cars. ie carbon fiber etc.
Everyone bitches about the price.

Believe me I have talked with length to Japan tuners about this and I know far better than you why we dont get after market support.
And it's becuase a lot of (not all just most) FC owners are cheap asses.

Agreed.

SureShot 10-28-03 12:12 PM

Definition of over priced:
It fails to sell in a free market.

In other words:
If a vendor can get sales at a certain price, it's not over priced..

Of course that dosen't mean I personally can afford it.
If others can - fine.

bkapold@aol.com 10-28-03 12:31 PM

Ya, 1k is to much for replica.... My friend bought a Replica GTC bumper from the replica guy and it wasn't that great. So if the quality was there and it was around 600-800 max I could see it

j9fd3s 10-28-03 12:41 PM

ive seen the fd feed front and the replica, the replica fit like crap

F*%& you buddy. Who the hell are you to make that statement? Any body that would pay $1000 more for the same piece of fiberglass is retarded in my opinion. Its fiberglass, thats it. There isn't anything special about it because it came from Japan. So maybe some FC owners are cheap. And maybe some FC owners don't have 2g's lying around to spend on a bumper, who the hell are you to say? Congratualtions, you spent 1000 more on a completely useless part, and you could have taken that money and used it elsewhere. You can call me cheap all you want. Ill be the cheap guy with 1000 extra dollars to spend. There is no way anyone could ever justify 2g's for a damn bumper. You can buy whole kits for less than that, that are much better looking as well.
