Really Weird HVAC blower relay issue
 

Long story short, I was doing a custom wire tuck for the chassis harness and now I have a problem. Of course. To try and avoid problems like these, I extended each wire one at a time. I did go back and tear apart all my looming to make sure the wires were connected correctly.

The problem:
When sliding the blower adjuster, a relay starts clicking in in sync with the speed selected. EX: The higher or lower the speed, the quicker or slower the relay clicks.

None of the harness inside the car was touched and this problem just started. Only the chassis harness was modified. I know there were several wires in this harness that were spliced from the factory into multiple other wires. Maybe I missed joining a wire somewhere.

Does anyone have any pictures of the stock chassis harness laid out or any ideas why this would happen?

This has to be related to a wire I moved. Does anyone know if any wires off the blower come through to the front harness? That is all touched so that's all it can be related to.

As far as I know, all hvac is in dash. Ign switch, logicon, blower... Satch will know. Just wait lol

There are a few wires for the A/C where the front harness connects to the air con harness (FAC-01 and FAC-02) but not sure this is your problem. There are a few wires to the Ex-Hi relay which you can check. Do an advanced search w/the name hailers in the search box and you'll find some fairly detailed posts on how to possibly diagnose your problem. And make sure the ground wire for the relay is properly grounded.

Thanks for the response. I'll check those out and those search results. This never occurred before extending my front harness, so I feel this has to be part of the problem. It just doesn't make sense that the relay clicks faster or slower dependent on the speed selected. Something has to be shorting when the blower is activated.

I've been focusing on getting the car somewhat tuned and put this to the side for a bit. However, I have been trying to figure out could be causing it. Here's a video. Ignore my annoying ass voice.

All interior fuses checked out except the rear wiper fuse. Replaced this and no dice on fixing it (obviously, as this should have nothing to do with the blower)

Looked at some of the pages related to this with hailers info and I guess I will start tearing crap apart tmmrw.

I wonder if it could be the logicon? It provides grounds to several of these relays. Although, I've never had an issue with cold solder joints in this car yet.

I should also add that it does this with the temperature slider all the way to cold.

If a wire is supposed to provide a ground then you can always isolate that wire and provide an additional ground by backstabbing the original wire at the plug and see if it changes things for the better. If it does then you have narrowed down the problem.

Have you pulled the blower motor out? It sounds like a piece of vent fell down in there and the blower is hitting it, not the relay itself.

The reason I ask is because the blower is blowing in your video and I have had this happen to me before.

I thought the same thing. It sounds a lot like the blower just hitting something. I believe three screws/bolts hold in the blower motor and one harness plug. Hopefully some debris will just fall out or you will be able to reach in there and dislodge whatever may be making the noise.

Yup, three phillips screws and it comes right down.

DING DING DING! JJWALKER is the winner! I took the took the whole blower out, disassembled it, and found one dry leaf stuck between the blades of the blower. Put it back together and enjoyed the sweet sound of silence.
