Ran my GTU tonight

I went to the track today, and got 2 runs B4 I decided to park the car.

First a lil bit of background as to what my car has ran Before:

With Intake only I used to Run 16.4 best @ 84.5 (BOTH Trak and G-Tech) G_tech MPH is always about 5 higher though.

I then installed RB header, and the custom MP to the Y pipe, and RP 50mm cat back, and also wired open the ports.

I took it out for 2 diff runs on the G-Tech on the same flat raod I ttried it out b4. I ran 15.4, then when it was about 45 degrees in FL altitude, I got a 15.15 @ 95 mph, remember the G-Tech MPH is always 5 or 6 higher thant what it would be at the track.

THEN I went to the track a few months ago to see what I could get. the Temp was about 50 or so, so that was good. BUT the wait time inline was 2.5 hours, so I only got one Run, AND SERIOUS Wheel hop. I got a 16.4 (THE SAME tiem I got with only and Intake. (BTW Both my batter and ALT went bad ont he way home and the car barely bogged home durign the last mile on 8 Volts.

Anywho, I went again tonight, and on the first Run I had no wheel hop, but I spund and bogged, so it wast a good run. here is the time
Reved to 4K

60'---- 2.425
330---- 6.99
1/8---- 10.679
MPH---- 66.58
1000---- 13.868
1/4------ 16.528 @ 85.29 MPH

I was pissed.

Next run: Reved to 5K SPUN liek mad. here are results

This TIME I ran my G-Tech at the same time, but the spinning thre the G-Tech off by a lil bit.

60'---- 2.352 (Witht he spinning)
330---- 6.74
1/8---- 10.312
MPH---- 67.98
1000---- 13.443
1/4------ 16.071 @ 85.52 MPH
G-Tech 1/4 ---- 15.75 @ 91 MPH

Now the reason the G-Tech was off by so much is due to the Wheels spinign in the start, the G-Tech mesures the G's to determine its times, and its Very accurate as long as you have Very litle spining, and you hare on a flat road.

Now if you read up or check my sig, you will see that I ahve gotten a 15.15 withthe G-Tech, so I'm expectign my car to run mid to low 15's with a good lauch.

The track seemd slippery to soem other peopel as well.
Another factor that could determine my spining is that I have BFG Comp T/A tires with 36 PSI in them. These tires are 7 ply itres, so they are better for Auto-X thant they are for drag. Next time I'll lower my PSI to 22 and see if I get better traction, if not I'll release the clutch slower at 5,500 RPM.

I'll keep ya'll posted. I wont rest untill I get my 15.50 or better :D

OHH BTW all you Turbo guys can stop laughing at my NA times now :D

Not bad. I wish my N/A went that fast when I had it. Thoughs are decent times though. keep up the work and you'll be even faster.

For an '88, that's not all that bad dude.....
:)
86-88 ran 16.7 STOCK.
89-91 ran 16.0 STOCK.

86-88 ran 16.7 STOCK.
89-91 ran 16.0 STOCK
Thats the times quoted by mazda, and I know alot of magazines had similar times. But....I've heard of many people running mid-high 15's with a stock model of either series. Not bad times at all though, keep practicing the launces, get your 60' time down to as close to 2.0 as you can, should hit low 15's.

The only time you hear about people running high 15'swith a stock 86-88 NA is when they rev the piss out of them...when you don't shift till 8500 or 9000 of course it is going to be faster then what mazda says.
I have an 88 GXL and i ran a 15.6 spinning through second.

I've always heard that the 87 base model is the fastest NA. 15s are not bad for an NA anyways. I ran a low 16 in my TII stock but I was having boost problems. Now its all fixed I wanna go back and see what happens.

I think I Jsut figured out 2 probs.

One, I dotn have my O2 Sensor in my exhaust, so I'm probably runign TOO Rich (NAs run rich enought as it is.)

Secon, and most importantly, When I drove on the side of the burnout box, I think one of my tires got wet, and I didnt Do a burn out to dry them off, so that might explain why I spun out so bad that second time.

I'll try it again in 3 weeks or so.
BTW my car is'nt Stock. my few mods are in the Sig.

:D

LoL Tim good one :D :D :D

my old SE ran a 15.4 with just a mid pipe
and the timing advanced

Silkworm 05-25-02 09:40 PM

Except that (experten correct me if I'm wrong), FCs don't go into closed loop at full throttle, and the O2 is meaningless to the ECU at WOT. It's there for idle/partial throttle. Probably still running rich, but it's not because of the missing O2 sensor.

I've never trusted the G-tech times to be something I can talk about "my car does xx.xx". It is very useful for seeing if a mod helped or hurt my times.. But it's almost always been fast about 3 tenths, and 4-6mph, minimum, for me in the T/A.

Anyway, good luck with getting your times down.
