radiator leak
My 91 has developed a leak from the plastic radiator head tank.
The leak is right on the top in the center of the radiator. There appears to be a flat spot where a label would have been placed. The leak is from a slight crack on the bottom of the flat spot. I have tried two methods of sealing the plastic tank. neither has been successful. first was a plastic plumbing pipe of the proper diameter, cut in half, glued with multi purpose plumbing cement. It did not hold. the second attempt was fiberglass - done twice -both have eventually failed. Question- what will stick to this plastic tank. the location of the crack is left of the coolant sensor. Thanks, 91 convert |
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but its new radiator time...
that plastic has gotten brittle, and will soon pretty much disintegrate... Jarrett |
I had the same crack.
I used a dremmel cut-off wheel to open the crack and patched it with Bondo Marine Epoxy putty stick. The patch held, but another crack opened at the crimp connection to the core about 3 months later. Time to check out www.radiators.com |
If u dont have cash for a new rad right now try AB epoxy putty, pretty cool stuff.

I wil try epoxy putty. I assumed that since fibergass uese epoxy resin, that no epoxy will stick.
I will post results 91 cvt |
