radiator

which one is the best
fluidyne ,k2rd,griffin and why

Silkworm 07-25-02 11:47 PM

That's like asking which are better, brunettes, blondes or redheads.

IOW, it depends..

Good with fabrication? Griffin's the cheapest, can get a custom setup very cheaply, but you get to figure out how to mount it to the car.

Not so good with fabrication? Fluidyne and K2rd have drop in radiators, but they're both pricey. I haven't heard much about the K2RD setup, but the fluidyne should be a drop in bolt up replacement.. At 400+ bucks, it better be..

The K2RD requires batery relocation .. and some minor fabrication, But it prolly cools better than all 3 of those (due to its larger size) I personally am going with a fluidyne .. I want a drop in, and I don't want to do any permanent "structure changes" to my car... its a 10AE.

There is another good one I have heard about .. the name escapes me right now. I think its japense made.

Fluidyne works good for me. Looks really good to.

I got a quick question about the fluidyne ... can you still use the stock fan & shroud? or do you need a E-Fan setup? I am getting one .. but it is a month away still I think.

You're probably thinking Koyo..

And the K2RD probably isn't much bigger than my 26x19 Griffin.. I get 180, racing.. 95* day. I've gotta go smaller though, rules require stock size battery, my half size battery isn't going to be legal.

Ya. Koyo... thats the one I was thinking of. I have heard good things about that one also. The thing about the K2RD setup is; .. they want almost as much as a fluidyne for it, and you gotta fabricate & move things... I'm sure it doesn't cool that much better. I'm just going to be weekend road triping this car & hit the drag strip once in a while. No track racing.

Ya the one you have now is bigger than the k2 one, its;

23 x 18.5 x 2.25

SILKWORM how did you manage to fit that Griffin rad in there???..I thought most FC owners that has the Griffin rad either use the 22X19 or the 24X19. ANd i'd say 180* during racing is pretty good!!!..

Silkworm 07-26-02 12:43 AM

heh.. It's coming back out for a 24.. basically it takes up the entire front of the engine bay, I have maybe 3/4" of an inch clearance to feed the oil cooler lines around the radiator. The bottom tray doesn't quite fit, but the core reason is that the swaybar won't mount up properly, the 19" height sits too far down.. I'm going to redo with a 24x16, integrated oil cooler, just in case I need it in the future, with the fittings in the correct location (no juryrigged hoses again)

got any pics Silkworm?

Scott 89t2 07-26-02 02:53 AM

I ordered a k2rd one like 3 weeks ago but it's still on backorder :( probbaly have it in 2 weeks. it needs an e-fan and battery move. and you gota play with the hoses, I'm still not too sure what fits there. I'm working on the battery move right now.

theres an all-metal one from absolute radiator. i doubt its higher performance than the stock one, but it should last a lot longer. and its only $130
