The Racing Beat-designed Engine Torque Brace for the 1986-92 RX-7 non-turbo substantially reduces or eliminates the shuddering experienced by many RX-7 owners when engaging the clutch in either first or reverse rear. This simple brace mounts to the rear of the engine, and the retaining arm attaches to the outboard sheet metal in the engine compartment. (You must drill a small hole in the sheet metal to mount the retaining arm.) This brace reduces engine movement allowed by the soft-rubber OEM engine mounts by reducing engine movement during clutch engagement. This brace has particular benefits when upgrading to a more "performance" oriented clutch and/or pressure plate, which may make this "shuddering" even more pronounced! . This brace does not fit on 1988-92 convertible models. Maybe I don't check the websites for new stuff that often, but I thought I did a little too much. Anyway I want to know what people think about this. I'm not considering buying it but I thought it at least might be useful. No install instructions on RB's website though. Another thing, where does this go exactly if anyone was to install it? There has to be a reason why they say this does not fit on convertibles. I wonder why. :ponder: |
That's been around for years and years.
It mounts at the back of the engine near the transmission and attaches behind the shock tower somewhere around the trailing coil, if I recall correctly. |
upgrade your engine mounts, you dont need that.

It's a good alternative for people who don't want solid engine mounts.
Why not tie into the close/convenient firewall instead of running a long skinny pole across to the inner fender skin? Alternatively, the Racing Beat 4-point strut brace attaches the torque brace to the main crosspiece, again, a more logical approach, IMO. |
i think you mean the old Mazdatrix brace was the one that had the engine torque dampener thing on it...

ok wasn't sure, i've seen pics of an older racing beat brace, but it looked like it was all made form a giant chunk of aluminum or something with holes cut out in it.
