Racing Seats For The Big Guys? Anyone?
 

Hey guys just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on
racing seats that fit our cars for one and also are made for
someone about my size. I'm 6'2" 230 with a 36" Waist..
Does anyone my size run an aftermarket seat in an FC? Let me know!

Real racing seat, ie one piece, or a "sport seat" that reclines? If you mean a real racing seat, then if at all possible go and sit in the seat that you want to buy. Autocrosses (less so, since many haev stock seats) and road races are good places to find a wide selection of seats. Most people, when asked, won't mind if you sit in their car to see if the seat fits. Also, if there's any stores around that sell seats and have some in stock definetely go check it out.

If you can find one seat that fits reasonably well, then you can find its measurements and find other seats with similiar measurements, but beware because not all companies will measure in the same places or some might measure to the padding, others to the shell, or something like that.

Sport seats will be much more tolerant of being undersized because of their much less aggressive bolstering.

yeah, truthfully a "sport" seat is more what I am looking for. A reclineable recaro, or maybe corbeau. Just something for autocross on the weekends and cruising during the week that still supports harnesses. Also has to fit inside the FC :)

Hmm.. I remember reading a thread a long time ago , not even sure if it was on rx7club, but a guy in your similar situation decided to drop the floor board area for his seat a couple inches using steel tubing..

not to get to far off topic. When I was looking to go with sport seats I read the rails that you have to buy to mount them to raises the seat height by about 2 inches. Now my question does anyone know of rails that retain close to stock seating height/position.

For rails, Bride makes some designed so you don't lose the head room. I think it is the low max rails? I'm interested to hear of any of these seats. My fixed position aluminum seat is too small for me and painful if I've been driving for too long.

corbeau has a good selection of "wide" seats. request one of their free catalogs and i'm sure you'll find something to fit your needs.

Rotorhead izzy is right...corbeau has a selection of "wide" seats for quite a few of their models. I personally have a set of Recaro "speeds" (which have narrow seat bottoms) that I had my guy disassemble the bottoms and remove the cushions from in order to widen the framework and bolsters, then reassemble....fits beautifully and you can't tell that they've been modded unless you sit in them. T

Yea, be wary that most sport seats will give you less headroom unless you bolt them right to the floor with no sliders. Also, sport seats are steel tube frame seats (even $1500 Recaros), which means that the frame is thicker than it would be for a composite seat, so it'll tend to give less headroom and limit ultimate butt space more than an equivalent composite seat.

I've got an old Sport Compact Car with a seat guide where they had a bunch of people up to a 36" waist sit in a 73 different sport and race seats and give a quick one line on how it fit, if you give some guidelines on price, style, etc, then I can make some suggestions. There's also some composite bucket seats with minimal bolstering that can fit larger people fairly well, like the Sparco Roadsters and the Racetech RT Road series.

i pulled a decent corbeau seat with corbeau rails out of a junkyard fc just like youre looing for.

put it in my car, and i could barely even fit, and there was no chance of fitting with my helmet. and im an inch or two shorter than you.


so i didnt feel up to making my own rails and pawned it off to a friend.

moral of the story, a bottommount seat is going to take some ingenuity with some custom rails to fit with enough headroom.

not having a sunroof helps too.

yeah those do sit a little higher then the stocks...i guess to try eliminate that problem you can always go with fabbing his/her own seat brackets...

yeah the fabrication part of it isn't a big deal, i just need something that is wide enough.

sparco has a line of wide seats, but i dont belive they are reclining

they used to be calle dthe sparco evo-L and evo-XL .
i belive now there called the evo 2 and 3.

Did you ever get the rails made?

EVO 2 for my Dad. He is 6' 1", 240lbs, with a 38" waist. He said it is a little snug but I don't think the EVO 3 will fit in the car with a cage. I'm not sure about fitment without a cage.

i have a 36/38" waist and haven't had any problems getting into other peoples bucket seats (not relcineable) except some sparco's. i work at a performance shop and help instruct at drift events so ive tried a lot of seats ;)

That's a suspension seat, designed for offroading.

I was actually thinking about buying that one for the 'Yota.

Evo recaros. I have a buddy of mine that is a little over 300lbs that fits fine in em.

I know they're not exactly aftermarket, but what is the waistline for the JDM Infini seats?

Don't get the Infini seats unless you're like 5'6" - 5'8" max.
Anything taller you'd end up with not enough headroom.
Waist...I'd say don't go wider than 36".
You actually lose headroom over any of the stock FC seats. :P

I fit fine in my Sparco EVO2.
I'm 6', 38" waist, 240#.
The problem is that you need to custom install them.
Don't even bother with the combination of the Sparco side-mount brackets with the Wedge Engineering adapters...
Like everyone else says, the Wedge Engineering adapters are crap.
The Sparco EVO2 right side mount is okay, but the left side mount ends up way over to the door sill.

i fit fine in the infini seats. im 5'11", 175lbs, 32" waist

I dunno how you do it...
I hit any little bump, and I hit the headliner.
Forget trying to fit in there with a helmet.
I estimated the Infini seats are at least 2" higher than any of the stock FC seats.
I do have a relatively taller torso than most - my inseam is only 31".
I don't like the feeling of sitting so high in the FC. :(

i have the knee pads too and my damn door won't shut unless the seat is all the way back. i usually slouch down when i sit so thats probably why.
