Racing Beat Header QUESTION!
Ok I just purchased a header from racing beat but I think I bought the wrong one.
I have a 1990 S5 and there are two versions of the headers. 1989-92 RX-7 13B 6-Port (Streetable*) 1984-92 RX-7 13B 6-Port (Race Version) I bought the RACE VERSION for my full exhaust...Did I buy the wrong one? (Sigh I hope not) |
The race header is for dual exhaust.
Im sure you could modify it, put a collector on if you are willing to do that. Or get creative, cut the front of the Y pipe off, then run two pipes back from the header to the now split Y pipe and have true dual exhaust :p note: you would never pass emissions with a set up like that. Or you could just return it. |
16127-Road Race Header 209.00
16448-Road Race Presilencer 225.00 16411-Road Race Y-Pipe 165.00 16438-Road Race Muffler - Right 220.00 16439-Road Race Muffler - Left 220.00 16454-Complete Exhaust Hanger Kit 121.31 16309-Engine-to-Header GASKET 11.53 AC&CV Cover Plate $8.00 I ordered the full true dual exhaust setup but there is two VERSIONS of the HEADER and what Im asking is if I ordered the correct one! Please check over the links I am well aware of emissions...my state does not have such law |
The street version came with oxygen sensor position for my s5 but I dont think the race version did...their site is confusing to me...am I screwed?
|
sorry! haha I see what you are asking now.
The only difference I see is the o2 sensor, idk about that one. You could always try calling them, they will be more than willing to help :) |
Its ok, atleast you responded.
I was confused because if you look at http://www.racingbeat.com/FCExhaust/RR%20Exhaust.htm site and look at the header section there are three versions. I saw two street* and one race* and I thought that the Street versions were for the other catback systems and the race was for the road race system but fuck i was wrong...damnit |

you will be fine the road race header has a O2 spot on it and will work fine for you. i have the same header with plans to finish exhaust with full RR version |

Phew I got mad for nothing...sorry its just that I spent alot of money on this system. but just to make sure...you ordered this one correct? Road Race (RACE VERSION) the 1984-1992 version... because the 1989-1991 for sure came with the o2 sensor posistion. Not only that but the 89-92 Street version doesnt require the removal of the air pump. On the 1986-88 13B 6-Port engines, the auxiliary intake actuators are operated by backpressure from the exhaust system. On the later 1989-92 13B 6-Port engines, these actuators are operates by air pressure from the emissions control air pump. Installation of this header does NOT require the removal of the air pump, and therefore the performance of the 6-port actuators is not affected. Included on the header is an oxygen sensor position for cars that require an oxygen sensor for correct operation. did you have to remove it? |
I just checked the price of both...they are priced the same...are they the same then?
|
No.
One collects, the other doesn't (Road race). |
But they both are ROAD RACE. just street version and race version
I know where the confusion is coming from. Since there is a streetable version it mixes with this... Or maybe im wrong all together...so confusing but if your right did i get the correct version?? |
If they are both road race (uncollected headers) then the only possible difference is that that S4 one comes with a little attachement that you can supposedly use with your 6ports (this attachment is useless). There is no street version of the road race header. the street version of the RB header is collected. If you read closely enough none of them are street legal anyways.

Will the 84-94Race version work on my S5 perfectly? Thats pretty much all im asking...just hope i didnt buy the wrong one.

From your 1st email message, you sound like you have figured out the correct parts for your car. (Mazda certainly made things confusing with the changes to the engine with the 1987 model year!) Since the Road Race Systems are the highest performing exhaust system we offer for the RX-7, we generally assume that emissions components are not being retained. On the 1989-92 6-Port applications, you still need the O2 sensor when using the stock ECU, but you can remove the emissions controls (air pump) is you want in order to simplify and lighten the engine. These headers are basically the same, but the various models have backpressure pickup tubes, O2 sensor positions, etc... so that a correct header can be used for each specific application. |

Or maybe im wrong all together...so confusing but if your right did i get the correct version?? 1984-92 RX-7 13B 6-Port (Race Version) I was making reference to the way YOU posted the description so it would be easier. The streetable collects, the race version doesn't. |
Just to be 100% sure...can you check over these jager..theres another streetable version which says COLLECT... the others don't and they are road race versions but they say street and race version for some reason.
Streetable Header/Collected Collected Headers Road Race Racing Beat Headers Uncollected Headers |
Next time I recommend that you pay attention to what you buy.
The top is the collected one, considering it collects. The second one you posted is known as the true dual setup. So that's the uncollected header. The only difference is with the header (fyi it is a header) is that one collects and one doesn't. The if you bought the wrong header/presilencer/y-pipe combo you are sorta screwed. The streetable collected header only matches up with the presilencer in the same system. The y-pipes are also difference (IE the true duals never join). I hope that helps. |
I did buy the uncollected header...1984-92 RX-7 13B 6-Port (Race Version) but if you check out the link 1989-92 RX-7 13B 6-Port (Streetable*) this is the one I was suppose to buy because it came with a o2 sensor attachment and the option of " Installation of this header does NOT require the removal of the air pump, and therefore the performance of the 6-port actuators is not affected." I'm not sure why it says streetable since it's the same one as the race version just without the options...
I don't think you looked over the links 1984-92 RX-7 13B 6-Port (Race Version) 1989-92 RX-7 13B 6-Port (Streetable*) They are pretty much the same header compared to the actual STREETABLE HEADER/COLLECTER |
I'm not quite getting what you're trying to say now.
They are not the same header compared tot he actual collected header. It's a totally different header. Since you have a 1990 just leave the air pump ON all together. You don't HAVE to remove the air pump unless you want too. Call them and ask them if you can get the 02 sensor extention (that's what you're thinking of with the 02 sensor attachment), or make you're own (it's just a clip ;)). THe 84-92 one should have a bung for the 02 sensor (again, I don't buy a system that doesn't scavange). I suggest you call them directly with your question. I never paid ANY attention truely for the uncollected system. That and they changed the names on me since I ordered. |
Thanks for clarifying...thats all I was asking, as I didnt mean to take it this far.
Sorry for the confusion I meant to say that the uncollected headers were pretty much the same and the collected was different How do you make the clip? I'm going to be installing my full duals as soon as they arrive and id like to have everything good to go...and hopefully it has a o2 sensor bung So I don't have to remove the airpump? I heard that I need the pump for the 5th and 6th ports to work... sorry I never installed a full exhaust before...just a catback. The header part is just confusing me. |
Can anyone clarify....so if I totally have the wrong part i can get one ordered today...
|
You don't have to remove the air pump, I've still got mine using the header. Yes, you do need to keep the air pump for your auxillery ports to work, unless you want to rig up a different way to open them. BTW, I think you'll be pleased with this system, I know I've definatly been pleased with mine.
|
Thank you for replying!
Can you help me make a clip? Well just how do you do it and what parts do I need? |
Just some wire and a male and female connector. Basicly you just need an extention to make the o2 wire reach. Clamp the male connector on one end of the wire, the female one on the other end, unplug your o2 sensor, and plug your new wire between the sensor and the wire comming from underneath your intake manifold.
|
Thanks! Can I get this at Radio Shack?
|
for the O2 sensor..either splice a piece of longer wire Between the O2 sensor and the Connector, order the extension Piece of wire OR make your own..(it's only one wire..)..you just have to make sure your wire won't dangle onto the header..
|
shit...i think im screwed...i recieved the header today...but it doesnt have a bung for the o2 sensor :Kill1: what should I do? is there anything I can do?
|
Call them and ask to return it. I have done this in the past. There might be a restocking fee, and if they won't return it sell it on the forum or ebay. You will take a slight hit but it's better than buying a second one and using that as a dust collector.

Please look at the pictures and tell me if there is a bung or not..(probably not, I ask this because I dont even know what a bung is)
second is this really required? id like to get my header on today... |
A bung is a little thing that the 02 sensor goes into. Look for a threaded hole on your exhaust.
Now at least we're on the same page :O. Return it and order the kit you wanted OR have the header modified at a local shop. |
is it required to have a o2 sensor? just wondering...theres no emissions here in this state.
btw does anyone have any pics of the bung on the header? so i can see where exactly to weld it to if needed... i just searched and read that the o2 sensor isnt really required and doesnt really make much of a difference? is this true? can i just go ahead and install the header? |
