race pipe (test pipe)

I have posted this b4, but no one had one. I am looking for a race pipe/test pipe what ever you want to call it. If any one makes them or has an aftermarket one give me a email c_shepherd7@hotmail.com I am taking the car to the track in a couple of weeks and want to use it there.
Any help is appreciated.
Also when I put the race pipe on can I just leave the air pump how it is, so that I can put my cat back on?
thanks
Chris

Just go to a local exhaust shop and have them make you one if you are only going to use it for track days. I had one made just for dialing in my 86 when it udnerwent the TII conversion, and the guy only charged me $40 for an entire DP to catback pipe. The cat replacement pipe should be even cheaper.

they are kinda weird around here. The only place that I could find that would make one said like $200. Yeah right. Well any one else. If you could have your exhaust place weld me up one, I could pay you for it. Depending on the cost.

www.rx7.com has one for $160, but after you buy the gaskets, etc...its like $189.95 w/ shipping....just a thought....

wow that is a lot. Any one else. Info on the air pump too? Is the cat and race pipe interchangable easily?

Live4Boost,
Are you planning on using your pre cat or do you want to get rid of that too? I can see how the muffler shop will charge a bit more if that is what you plan on. Considering there will need to be some bending of the pipe. I have a friend that made me my midpipe and it works wicked. I have a non-turbo as does he. If you have a turbo he probably won't be able to make you one because we don't have a template.

As far as the air pump goes: If you have a N/A motor you will need to rig something up so your sixports open. Or, my buddy can put a hole in the midpipe for the split air pipe to bolt up to which would create enough back pressure to activate the Aux Ports with out doing anything to your airpump.

If you have a Turbo you will need to take more precautions before you start freeing up your exhaust. (eg. FCD)

Also, keep in mind you would have to get it shipped.

If you are running NA..then the Race pipe from www.rx7.com will be good because it still produces enough BP to open your ports...it also replaces all your cats(its a manifold to ypipe race pipe). Like they all were saying though, if you have a T2, you have to be concerned w/ fuel cut too. The switching from the race pipe to cat isn't really hard, just takes time.

I have a TII, I already have a down pipe, and cat-back exhaust a FCD a Walbro fuel pump a apex S-AFC and lots of others. I will be fine on the fuel and boost part of it. I am just wondering if the race pipe and cat can just bolt off/ bolt on with out further modification.
Thanks

WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY SO. I wasn't clear on the whole RACE PIPE thing....but if you looking for the Cat replacement pipe....again www.rx7.com sells a race pipe(cat replacement pipe) that swaps out in minutes w/ an existing hi-flo cat, and its only $60....

wow thats the stuff Im looking for:) Do you know if I need the bolt and gasket kit or if I just can use stock?

RotaryMan88 08-15-01 10:07 PM

I'm not exactly sure, but the downpipe/presilencer setups and race pipe setups normally use the same gaskets and bolts. The only time I think you really need them is when your connecting a hi-flo cat to a new cat back...other than that you should be fine. You can always call Rotary performance, I've talked to them a lot, they are great at helping ya out!

If you already have the DP, then adding the cat replacement pipe from RP should not require the bolt and gasket kit. All it is is 2 bolts, 2 nuts and 1 gasket (per kit!). As long as yours are ok still, and you don't strip any bolts/nuts, you should be fine. If you do, just go to the parts store and get some generic graded bolts and nuts, and a generic gasket for your purposes.

Will that pipe from rx7.com fit a Racing beat catback?

misterstyx69 03-30-13 11:05 AM

why not just gut the parts until you do the swap?
shove a baseball bat into the cat..does a good job.
The cat has a pipe for your Split air,so why are you putting a race pipe on and your cat too?
Doesn't the test pipe eliminate the cat?
(if anyone is charging you 200 bucks for an 24 inch pipe, they should be hit with that baseball bat!)
