R134 conversion kits?
 

Do those kits at like Autozone or any of those stores really work? I saw one kit to take from R12 to R134 for $29.99 without regrigarant (sp). I wanted to know if anyone has done this conversion....thanks

ive done the retro fit kit and all it basicly was were the service valves it took about 10 min to do and its cheaper to do that than to fill your car up with r12 that stuff is big money

FC3AZ, word of warning...R134A runs at a signifigantly higher pressure then R12. It WILL damage your system and does not cool as well. I know its effects first hand. I blew up my high side line on my 7. I have since reassembled my AC system in my 87 and I charged it with a new product called FREEZE 12 (actually its not very new). It is a "drop in" replacement for R12 and it costs $5.00 or so for a 12 oz can. It uses only 90% of the system capacity (pressure) required for R12 and is much more efficient at cooling. Unfortunately, you need a license to aquire it. I am sure that you know someone that has one. I am only running ONE can in my Rex and I have ICE COLD AC. If you need more guidance please PM me.

Be careful!

Those who want to use the kit to convert over to r134,
be careful as it might do more harm than good. Remember this "you get what you pay for". A properly done conversion will require a complete flush and the compressor properly oiled. If you do a half ass job at it, it will freeze up your compressor and that'll be that.
Take it to an AC shop and have it done properly. Also, since R134 molecules are much smaller, it will leak if you don't have a completey sealed system.

Who need the A/C anyway? Take that bitch out and dont worry about it. :D

Yeah, we dont even sell Freeze 12 because of the liabilty reasons. Which would you prefer? Cold AC, or your Life? Just convert to 134, or pay the $39.99 a can for r12. We sell a conversion kit that comes with Service ports, all O-Rings, and Oil. All you need is 134a, a can tap, and a hose to fill with.

Freeeze 12 should be either butane or propane based, which are both easily compressible. Which allows for greater efficiency and cooling capacity.

What i want to know, has anyone managed to rip an entire AC system and retrofit that onto the rx-7, say a new R134 system off a wrecked car?

I keep telling you guys: If you are going to do a R-134 conversion, you MUST flush all the old oil out and clean the condensor and evaporator of old oil. This is a major job, but if you don't do it you will trash your A/C system within 6 months of conversion.
If you want the conversion to be very successful you need to put in a bigger condensor. Yes they are available.
I recommend keeping R-12 unless you are doing major repairs anyway.
Freeze 12 works great, but I don't want a time bomb under my hood.

Well, I also have a black interior. And I have to go to work in full Battle Dress Uniform. So I am gonna be a crybaby about it. Plus my AC works.

i've lived in gilbert for since '97 and every year the heat gets worse. you might not mind it now, but give it some time. hell, we are still in the cool part of the summer.

Damn i am putting a fortune in my car ... and I want it to be as FAST as possible .. but I will NOT sacrifice my AC ... I have been to AZ, way to F-in hot to not have AC.

I don't know about you guys ,.,, but I like to get laid once in a while. Try getting a woman in your hot ass RX when its over 100 deg. outside. NOT gonna happen.

Where I live its in the high 90's to mid 100's for about 3 months of the year .. And I myself don't want to suffer.. and a woman just will not understand. "ya, baby this thing is like 350HP" She will tell you "I don't give a rats ass! we are not sweating later, if I gotta sweat now"

Plus .. if you don't run the AC while racing .. you may only loose 5 HP, or less. Thats nothing when your running over 300.

My 2 cents.

Thats what I am talking about. It only takes a sec to switch off the AC if I need the extra HPs.
