Quick Questions!

i have an 87 rx-7 hatchback , can you guys tell me what are the normal stats on the gauges tat i shoudl look for when i first started the car? like TEMPs, VOLTs, Oils... etc...

and another thing is tat everytime i shift to 5 at a normal speed i felt like something buzzing on the stick and made like some buzzy noise... but when i shift slow , nothing happen at all .. can you guys tell me whats wrong w/ it >?

You have an S4; normal operating temp should show 1/4 to 1/3 up on the temp guage. If it gets over 1/2 stop the car. Overheating is not good. Oil pressure should show 45-60. Over 60 on warmed up engine is not normal and below 45 either the oil is too thin or the oil pump ain't working right. If the alternator is working correctly, you should see 14 V when the car is running. More or less might be indicative of a charging problem and should be looked into.

The 5th gear synchro is typically a problem. The buzz you feel is a 5th gear grind. Shift slower into 5th and you'll save some wear and tear on the tranny.

SIGH.

30-60 is normal. BUT, just because the stock gauge is showing that doesn't mean it's correct.

Showing ~14V is normal, but showing less doesn't mean much. My gauge is NEVER over ~12.4V, yet I've never had a charging problem. Why? My 20 year old volt meter isn't that accurate.

Yeah, don't worry if the gauges are off by a little... or a lot.

temp: 1/8 (light load but moving) to 1/3 (heavy load). I say this 'cause I experience/hear-of auto store thermostats <cough> stant <cough> that run 1/3 all the time... then things get worse. If you're running hot, get an OEM thermostat from a Mazda dealer, then check everything.
Over 1/2 is bad: get it fixed soon, but usually it's okay to drive around.
7/8 is actual overheat: pull over within 30 seconds.
oil: ~30 idle, ~60 otherwise. If it's off, don't worry... this is more of a "do you have pressure?" than "how much pressure?". If it shows 0 or 110, auto stores have gauges you can buy to verify.
voltmeter: ~14. Bad if below ~11-12 (bad battery or charging system) or above ~15 (bad or disconnected regulator, gonna blow some components).
shifting into 5th: I had a '7 with this problem. Push lightly into 5th until it falls into gear on its own - sometimes fast, sometimes very slow, it varies.
