quick question about the fuel pump relay..

where the F*CK IS IT?

i know it should be by the pass. side headlight, right? but i can't find that bitch!

the fuel pump restor relay is behind the headlight. you don't have one on a S4 N/A

Sir Rupert Hobo 01-09-05 07:42 PM

ok, so what do i do now? i'm trying to rewire my fuel pump, i already installed the walbro. and now i'm stuck with this..

edit, i TOTALLY missed the part where they said n/a's are different because they don't have the relays... hahaha. i'm reading up on dale clark's writeup..http://1300cc.com/howto/how2/rewire.htm

another edit- what the hell do i do now, if i don't have that relay?:D
yes, i'm searching as we speak..

Sir Rupert Hobo 01-09-05 08:01 PM

ahhh crap.. according to hailers, in one of the threads i searched(closed the window by accident) he says if you have the stock FPR and are n/a WITH an upgraded pump, i'll need that resistor from a TII.. is this correct?

i'm going standalone, does this affect anything?

WAYNE88N/A 01-09-05 08:19 PM

I thought you went turbo, Logan???

For the N/A's, the only relay we need to worry about in the fuel pump circuit is the circuit opening relay, near the steering column. Energized by the ignition switch to "start", and by the AFM door switch after start...

The Walbro will probably make you run PIG rich at idle, even to the point of inhibiting combustion I would guess, hence the need for the resistor pack (drops the pump circuit voltage to 9v at idle)...

Sir Rupert Hobo 01-09-05 08:23 PM

lol, this is confusing, i made it sound like i was n/a... here's my setup:

88n/a car
s5 TII motor
microtech
walbro
stock FPR

so what do i do in this case?

thanks for the help.

WAYNE88N/A 01-09-05 08:29 PM

Not sure, but I would guess you're gonna need that resistor/relay combo...Not sure what you can do with the Microtech as far as leaning her out at idle...

You have an A/F gauge?

Sir Rupert Hobo 01-09-05 08:31 PM

no gauge, but i do have a wideband...

also, i should say the motor isn't in the car yet, so i wouldn't know any readings.

Scott 89t2 01-09-05 09:42 PM

for standalone just run a 12v wire from battery to back. I'm guessing the microtech will have a fuel pump realy wire, if not find a wire from it that will work. run that to the back to relay with the 12v wire.

you don't need the resistor, and you probably can't use the stock fuel pump wire with no stock ecu. but it's been awhile since I looked at where it came from.

Sir Rupert Hobo 01-09-05 10:03 PM

well that makes sense.. reading the microtech wiring diagram, i have a green wire and a pink wire that goes to the fuel pump relay. the pink wire, 86 on the relay and the green wire, 85 on the relay.

so looking at the diagram below, should i hook up my green wire to the 'ground' of the relay, and the pink to the 'remote' part of the relay?

http://1300cc.com/rx7pics/rewire/rewire1.jpg

but what to do with the power out, route it back to the pump?

Scott 89t2 01-09-05 10:19 PM

yes the power goes to the pump "+" make a new ground for the pump "-"

the relay will probably have the numbers 85 and 86 right on it. I forgot which number is ground and remote. just match your colors to the numbers.

Sir Rupert Hobo 01-09-05 10:28 PM

so i can just forget the stock TII resistor, right?

thanks alot for the help..

NZConvertible 01-10-05 01:35 AM

You only need the relay/resistor if you're running a stock S4 TII or any stock S5 ECU. It is not required for aftermarket ECU's, and can't be run by them anyway. Ignore the wiring diagram above and wire the pump as per the MicroTech instructions.

Sir Rupert Hobo 01-10-05 04:40 PM

sweet deal then:)

HEy Logan send me some in progress pics id love to see how she is turning out. :)
