Quick Question about Brake Master Cylinder
 

I need to get a new master cylinder for my 88 TII.

My brake master cylinder appears to have a pressure sensor (or some other sensor) coming off of the middle of the plastic reservoir.

Most of the master cylinders I am looking at do not have this sensor attachment.

I figured this was for an ABS system, but my car does not have ABS.

Would there be any problem with installing a new master cylinder with a reservoir that does not have this sensor connection?

I'm just curious if this is a signal the computer needs or something. When I unplug the sensor with the car running and press on the brakes there is no warning light that appears.

I am also wondering if there is any difference in master cylinders for cars with Auto Adjusting Suspension vs non-Auto adjusting suspension? Bore size, or something?

i believe that sensor on the plastic reservoir is the fluid level sensor, and there is a difference.If you get one thats for auto adjusting suspension, a sensor needs to be bolted on the bottom of it, otherwise youll shoot out fluid from that hole. I went to alot of stores trying to find the right one .

Yes the sensor is the fluid level sensor.

99% of the time when you buy a new master cylinder it WILL NOT come with the resivour. Most of the time the master cylinder is PICTURED with the resivour on it but thats only for reference.

You install your old resivour w/ fluid level sesor on your new master cylinder. Pain in the butt sometimes.

The fluid level sensor turns on the brake light in the car.

That might be a problem because the leak looks like it's coming from where the reservoir is attached to the cylinder. Hopefully the new cylinder will fix that problem.

It's a level sensor and it's not just for AAS models, it's for all of them. Carquest sells remans for $54, but you have to use your old tank and it's a pain in the #$% to get it off. I thought I was going to rip the tank off of the nipples that go down into the gromets on the master cylinder. After I swapped it, it kept leaking and still hasn't stopped, but the tank is fine, no cracks, just the whack gromets.

my car never had that sensor in the resevoir, i swapped out the master cylinder with one that did have one, and what do you know, there was a plug for it a few inches away?? And im pretty sure that was the stock MC.

I have the same problem. I used black RTV to help it seal better. It worked for a few months. I was so glad no more paint was going to get stripped of the engine bay. After a few months though it started leaking again. I will try a new resivour when I get the chance to buy one see if that helps.
