Theres nothing that can ruin a car quicker than a cheapo paint job. If youre not going to do it right, then leave it alone.

Well, it's just the engine bay. In no time, it's going to get dirty, greasy, etc. It's MUCH better to remove all the wiring and hoses, but if you're not trying to win any shows, spray cans work fine in the engine bay.

For that matter, spray cans work fine EVERYWHERE if you are willing to put in the effort. I have produced some satin smooth finishes with spray cans. Just use a quality paint system, and WET SAND.

How many colors did you use?:rlaugh:

Sorry, I just had to.

The wiring harness is about the only thing I don't remove when redoing an engine bay, one of the few items that dosn't rust.

Rattle can paint can work, but I prefer to use an hvlp gun, full size or touch-up. Proper prep will make or break any paint job.

O and tweak to awnser the acutall question u asked.. i think you should pull off all the elctronics and paint it properley.. that way it will look good and you wont regret it

rotaryjunky 03-01-05 08:26 PM

Definitely just use spray can but take a little extra time and mask it well. You'll be able to take more pride in it when its done and it will be worth it.

any tips??

felixwankel88 03-01-05 09:18 PM

Well i managed to do it.. but a really good tip the same thing i did was took like 100 pics of everything in the engine bay so if i got confused i could just look to the pics

JamesBong 03-02-05 10:31 AM

Also, use a good quality spray paint that'll withstand heat, oil, grease, brakefluid, etc.

You can take 1000 pictures of the bay, or you can do what I did when I painted my engine bay.

My dad's an electrictian, so I happen to have access to this handly container with 10 different rolls of tape, each tape is just a repeating number (0-9). You can pick these up at any hardware store. So when you take off any electrical connector, just mark both sides, then you know that 1 goes to 1, 2 goes to connection 2, and so on..

it made my engine re-install painless. Which is what I was going for since there was a 5 month gap between when I removed the engine and when I put the car back together.

Definatly take at least a few pictures, though, it will make your life a lot easier.
