Questions for those Premixing
 

So i recently took out my MOP (metering oil pump) and am now premixing instead. I had read the opinions of people and all that, but now I have some questions. I was at a shop that works with rotaries (primarly 2nd and 3rd gen rx7s) a lot. The owner of the shop noticed that the MOP had been removed and blocked off when they were working on my car today and he came in and told me this was an extremely bad idea. He said that it would kill my motor and that you shouldn't remove the MOP even if you are mixing 2-cycle oil in with your gas (premixing). Supposedly he said this isn't enough, and that "the MOP is there for a reason." Now my question is, does he know what he's talking about and is this really a problem? From reading the threads about premixing ive noticed a fair amount of people do it and have removed the MOP. So my question to all of you is, how has your motor been doing since you did that? Have any of you taken it apart since you began premixing instead of the oil injector lines, and if so was everything ok? Ive heard the opinion that this is actually better for when you do a tear down of the engine. Also, I dont understand how this would be bad since with premixing you're putting in more oil than the injectors normally do, so wouldnt this lubricate things better? The rotary specialist of the shop that is the actual one that works on all the rx7s had no problem with it and said he's seen plenty of people do it, but the owner was the one that actually had the issue with it. this is a very good topic that needs to be bumped (i'll do it!). Need to hear from some guys who have run for more than a year or two w/out that MOP. I'm beginning to have second thoughts about removing mine, too...

The first generation section is spying on you... We want to know about taking off the OMP also. I took mine off the 85 GS and I wanna know about the long term effects! Can anyone confirm if the guy is right or wrong? I myself think he's WRONG! But that's just one opinion...

This has been addressed ALOT. There are ups and downs. I blocked mine off a year ago when i rebuild it.

If you premix he is wrong, it wont kill your engine.

I have read through the threads with opinions but I just wanted to know first hand from people doing this how their engines are turning out, so thanks for the info

LOL!! Bothell Imports in Bothell, Washington. They do good, reliable, cheap work, but the owner's a bit crazy heh. the rotary specialist they have there is a really cool guy, he's the one that works on all the rx7s that come in, he had no problem with the premixing, but the owner flipped out lol
