Questions regarding building a custom exhaust -
 

Hello everyone --

I am planning on having a custom exhaust system built for my NA FC.

My FC is that weird Middle-East/NZ spec, basically a S5 body with a S4 engine, and no emissions equipment.

This is what my current exhaust setup looks like, it's the stock one --

I was wondering... how should I get this custom system built? Should I look for something like Racing Beat's True Dual? What should I consider? Measures? What should I avoid?

Regarding emissions -- like I stated before, they aren't a problem down here, the stock exhaust I have atm doesn't even have cats. Also, regarding noise, the stock one is pretty noisy, and I like noise :)

Any recommendations?

A custom exhaust is great but to do it right you will need lots of experience, lots of time, and lots of money. Just putting pipes together is not going to get you very good power or tone.
Companies like racing beat have built hundreds of prototypes to make the perfect exhaust (In their opinion) for the rotary. Unless you want to build your exhaust multiple times, why not buy something that has already been tested and proven? If you build something on your own without extensive of R+D, it will probably have the power of a ford festiva and sound like a 94 civic sporting fart cans.

That's the thermal reactor exhaust, similar to what you will find on early 1st gens and other rotary vehicles of the time. It works quite well...

That said, when you go custom, all of it is replaced. :) You'll need to block off the ACV valve, remove the airpump, etc. Stick with an exhaust from a well known company such as Racing Beat. It is difficult to make a good exhaust for an NA that isn't insanely loud.

Since you are building an entirely new exhaust, any one of those headers will work.

Keep in mind that you'll need a good resonator (or two) and a good set of mufflers to keep the noise tolerable. Make the exhaust out of thick walled stainless.
