Questionable Secondary Irons

This engine was bought running and I broke it down to rebuild before putting it in my vert since I wasn't sure about it's complete history and I've had bad luck with coolant seals in the past. After cracking it open it looked like the engine had been rebuilt around 20-30k miles ago if I were to make a guess.

Anyways, the auxillary ports seem to have been ported free-hand and basically I'm looking to find out whether I should toss them or go ahead and use them. I plan on having a larger streetport done before reassembly if that makes any difference.

I'll add too that there were a few oil stains burnt into the housings and a decent bit of carbon build up on the rotors when I broke it down so I'm wondering if they might have cut in to the path of the oil control ring.

WTF? >.<

I would toss them personally.

My jaw literally dropped onto my keyboard after seeing that picture lol

I cant tell clearly or not, but from the picture it looks like the oil rings are going over the inside edge.
First time seeing that kind of...leading edge on the aux

theflatlander 03-28-11 11:53 PM

Junk em, do a proper port job on the next set.

Just curious was it a shop or private deal?

nycgps 03-29-11 02:53 PM

you should give it back to the dude who sold this SHIT to you, its junk. whoever did the porting job is a complete moron. I feel really sorry for the iron T_T

jjwalker 03-29-11 02:55 PM

Holy port job is correct! Look at those coolant passages too, nasty!

nycgps 03-29-11 03:11 PM

im surprised this thing actually runs ...

I would not even call this a porting job ...

Thanks for the replies fellas.
They are the sort of the replies I figured I'd be getting; I just wanted to be sure.

That ported it? I have no idea. I bought the engine as is and figured I'd tear it down for a rebuild before throwing it in my car. I'd assume it was probably something someone did on their own.

You can safely port halfway into the outer control seal's swept track without any extra oil consumption from the motor. The pictured porting should not cause the engine to produce smoke. However, the massively late closing timing on those ports will result in a decrease in power over stock ports.

RotaryEvolution 03-30-11 01:32 PM

junk em, the stock ports are already fairly aggressive timing wise and he just took port design and shit all over it with that retarded freehand late closing port job...

"hey guys, i got a new die grinder. watch this!"

Fire85GSLSE 04-03-11 09:58 PM

wow, enough said!
wait............ that person needs to be beaten by the rotary gods!
