Question: TIRE
What are the widest tires you can fit on 87 rx7 gxl?
|
fornt or back? or all around?
|
stock rims?
|
with aftermarket rims?
ive seen 255s in the rear that seem to safely fit.. |
215's work in the fron and i think like 245's could go in the rear. but i think 215 is widest without rub on the front
|
how do you know this, gergrx7?
im sure you can go 225s and 255s. |
ive herd some 225's rub im not sure in the back, no experience(sp?) but my friend bought some 225's for his t2 and they rubbed in the front. i would go with 215's jsut to make sure. some kind of 225's will work btu it chenges with the brand and i dont knw which brand works and which doesnt
|
.. its not usually the brand..
it likely has to do with the sidewall of the tire was your friend running 225/55s? or 225/45s? etc etc.. |
Thank for the info guys

225 and 255 fit on mine with no rubbing.
|
225 up front will fit on certain brands of tires, and will rub on others. Id go 215 just to be safe...unless you know for sure of a brand that wont rub.
|
i hear 235s are the best
ive had no problems with 215s so far then again my car is still stock |

Well, the tire width is measured from treadline to treadline around the tire. If you look at some tires, the tread wraps around onto the sidewall a little, while on others it doesnt. So if on 225 tires sidewall wraps around, its not going to be as wide as a 225 tire that the entire contact patch is 225. I hope you understand what Im talking about, Ill get some pics if you dont..

275 in the rear w/ a 17x10 w/ proper offset. You need to get it 100% right otherwise you're gonna rub.

Well I think 275 will fit in the back given the right off set. and I had 245-45-16 on a 8 in wheel in the front with coil over, and mad camber. ( damn I forgot the offset. sorry) so I think with camber 245 is the most in front.
