Question on plug wires........????
Just wondering how important it is to change the plug wires at 60k miles? I get a sparatic cut out when I am runnin up the rpm's, and it might be due to the fact that my plug wires are factory with 67k miles on them. Is it time for new wires for my baby FC?

Absolutely!
You need new plug wires! They may not cure your symptom, but my guess is that it will.
Plug wires change resistance over time. The average life on a plug wire is 60k or less. Heat and elements break down wires as well. If they don't cure you concern, you will definately gain in fuel economy and throttle response. Spend a few extra $$ and get good wires, you wont regret it! Mike |
How about the Jacobs plug wires from RP? (www.rx-7.com) They seem pretty nice and guarantee a difference in engine performance.
|
sure!
Those will do just fine. I don't have any personal experience with them.
I'm sure you will notice a performance gain with any new wires. How much depends upon how badly your current wires have decayed. Anyone out there use Jacobs wires?? Mike |
Want to buy some Magnecor Wires? They are the best. they are 10mm Wires, red and absolutely huge. perfect fit. grease doesnt eat them either. i think they retail for $98.22. how about $80 bucks?!? 2nd or 3rd gen. brand new and all. i want to get a group buy going for really cheap but am, not sure if Jason will allow it yet. he should since he doesnt sell magnecor's.

I think I will just stick with the Jacobs. Thanks for the offer, I appreciate it.

The jacobs wires are great, the boots that they come with are total crap. Dont seal that well. The best wires all around are the factory ones.

Had Ultra plug wires on my vert. Worked well, although a bit expensive, but worth it.

I would go with MSD wires, I have a set that have the LOWEST reistance of ANY wire with EMF resistance.
They were only about 30 bucks too!! I put them on in the parking lot of Ramchargers, and notice a vast improvement in smoothness. They also come with a heat shield sleev already on them. Cool. |

Sorry, I don't, but they are the only wires that MSD makes for the RX7, so they shouldn;'t be hard to find at any place that carries MSD products.

The MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor Wirses are Part No. 32919 for the Mazda RX-7 86-92. I just installed a set on my 88 Turbo II. I use to have Jacobs wires and now am using the MSD and Highly recommend the MSD wires. They flow at 40-50 ohms per foot of resistance, the lowest of any wire with High EMI suppression abilities. I paid around $77.00 dolars for mine from Kragen Auto Parts, they had to be ordered and took 2 days to get. They have a heat shield wrapped around the wires that I really like and fit perfect.

f
Magnacore 10mm are better than msd..in quality. Get them from mazdatrix.. i only paid 65 dollers for mine..I dont know why rxtreme would sell them for that much. but mazdatrix is the best deal i got.

I believe resistance is probably more important than size. I also like the idea of a shielded boot.

how about $60... :D

just curious. about what rpm does your motor start to shudder or cut out?

MSD WIRE SET: RX7 86-92 (13B)
Item#: MSD-32919 $51.00 www.optauto.com me and my friend ALWAYS get easy stuff to find from them they got an easy website to surf and there parts are very reasonable for being so big...... not trying to promote them or anything just helping out the fellow 7 friends i got nothing to say but good things about optauto.com |
I'm surprised....
that no one has suggested Racing Beats Hot Wires. A bit expensive, but with a life time warrenty, pretty good deal by my measure.
