The question that needs an answer

Ok i know almost everything about a TII swap that i need to. here is my question. How do i fit the TII tranny from a 89-91 TII into my 87 GXL:confused:  I am plagued with this question. I either want a TII or swap mine over. Either way i am going haltech. but HOW DO I MOUNT THAT TRANSMISSION. Everyone tells me i need to and i need to figure out how and if it is possible to fabricate one. OR if one of you fellow rotor heads could make one for me.

If you are using the TII engine, then all you would need is to make sure that you get the TII transmission mounts and then figure out what to do about a driveshaft. You can call Mazdatrix and have them build a good one for you, or you could just use one from an N/A automatic. The automatic one wil fit perfect between the TII tranny and N/A differential, but I would be suspicious of its ability to handle the power of the TII engine. Other than that, you should be fine.

As long as that transmission comes with the mount then all you gotta do is bolt it up. Just dont take that mount off and think an NA 5sp one will work or something, cause it wont, series 4, series 5, turbo, and automatic are all different.

I know i am not supposed to take it off but i mean does the 87 or 89-91 TII tranny bolt directly into the 87 NA mount hole?

IF you keep the stock mount on teh transmission, it wil bolt up to the holes in the car, provided the car was originally a 5sp.

All 5speeds bolt up to all other 5 speeds, provided that tranny keeps its original mount. THe mounts themselves can mount to the tranny differently, but eh holes on the end are all teh same.

so you are saying that there is NO problem what so ever of FITTING the swap itself. i mean everything? yes it may not be easy to put everything in, but you are saying that everything bolts on no problem?

Let me say it one more time in case I didnt make myself clear:

ANY 5sp TRANSMISSION, **using its stock mounting crossmember** WILL BOLT UP IN THE SAME POSITION AS ANY OTHER 5sp TRANNY.

The only time you run into problems is when changing between automatic and 5sp, or when trying to change out crossmembers between varying years of transmission, because crossmembers mounted TO THE TRANNY in different ways between 88 and 89.

Ill assume you are aware of the other requirements for driveshaft and drivetrain so we wont go into that unless you say we need to.

ok thanks for the info. yeah i already know the rest of the drive train needs to be swapped
