Question about a turbo(not the car)
 

Ok, when Summer and I got our TurboII we also got a spare turbo with it. The seals seem to be on good shape, but the turbine takes some effort to spin.

When I am able to get it to spin, it takes a lot of effort, but there isn't any grinding, just a lot of resistance. That's the only problem I can see with it. All I know is that it came off the blown engine and sat for a year collecting mold. Other than the turbine not being able to spin freely it's in fine shape.

Is there any hope for this turbo? If I were to rebuild it, would it be any good? Or should I just trash it? The turbine is in great shape, both intake and exhaust. No bends or chips whatsoever in the fins. It's an 89.

u can rebuild the turbo

u can even get it upgraded for more power it costed my freind like 500 or so for his t3 turbo to be rebiult and upgraded

Put a T3 on your FC and see what happens...you're engine will fall flat on it's face at 5000 rpms.

You should be able to wiggle the front of the turbine up and down slightly. If you have any back and forth movement, then you'll need to replace the thrust collar/bearings.

Spray some WD-40 into the oil inlet/outlet and then try to spin the turbine.

if there is a lot of resistance then the bearings are prolly goin out. id suggest getting it rebuilt or replacing it whenever you get a chance.

Thanks for the replies. Stephen said he'll try the WD-40 thing tomarrow and see what happens but will probably rebuild it himself. :)
