redline is a general term for rotaries, you dont make much if any power past 7800 rpms on a stock s5 but with intake and full exhaust and other mods it will pull to 8200~8300 fairly easily without damage. fuel cut is at 8600 rpms though.

The only reason why we don't rev higher is because our power curve falls off at the stock redline levels and internal parts start to get oil starvation and such.

sliderfc3s 04-12-04 03:35 PM

so is it possible that the s5 can run to 11 with the right junk?

Madrx7racer 04-12-04 03:40 PM

maybe with porting and making sure the fuel cut is removed........I have heard of full race application 7's getting that high.

If the engine is built to handle it, then yes. Hardened stationary gears, oil mods, lightened everything, etc...

But certainly not with the stock intake manifold...And of course, this would require an aftermarket EMS to eliminate the rev limiter in the stock ECU. And the ports required would be so bad down low that the car wouldn't be fun at all to drive on the street...
