Question about S4 LSD

Hey not sure if this is the right place to ask this and it may seem like a stupid question but, I was saw this: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/pts...626552211.html on craigslist. I was curious if the little tag on the back of the diff indicates that its an lsd or not? Also I know that the clutch type lsd's have to be rebuilt occasionally would it be worth to do that? And does anyone know the average cost to do something like that? Sorry the load of questions, Thanks.

Looks like an LSD type differential to me... Not sure on the rebuild cost but they are a very IN demand type differential. The S4 TII is even more in demand

Well, the tag clearly indicates that it is an LSD. If it is out of an 86-88 GXL, than it is an LSD. How many miles on it? Assuming these parts are still available, the clutch pack (6 friction discs and 4 steel discs) will probably cost around $200. Depending on the mileage, you might need bearings too. There are 5 bearings -- 2 side bearings and 3 pinion bearings.

That is an 86-88 Turbo LSD.

I agree with it being an LSD. I would snag it at that price. Have you contacted the seller to determine when it was last used and its current condition?

He said that he was unsure about the mileage on it but said it was in good condition. He didn't sound very sure if it was from an N/A or a turbo but thinks it was from an N/A. Is there anyway to tell the difference besides the size? Also if it is an N/A it should be a direct swap correct? Or would I need to change something?

the M055 cast on the side makes it an n/a.

If it were from a TII, would it also have a casting mark?
