Question about fuel:air mixture
If I am worried about running to lean or to rich, what is a good way to check/correct these problems? Would it be a good idea to invest in an s-afc or something similar?
The best way to check is to get a wideband O2 sensor and a good Air/fuel gauge. This will tell you the parts of air to fuel ratio.
There are many ways to change the fuel/air ratio. A S-AFC would be a good way to adjust this. |
OK thx for the advice, where would I purchase a wideband O2 sensor and a good Air/fuel gauge?
the wide band 02 is around $1000. you don't buy one. you find a shop that has one and pay to use it.
but I can bet you are running too much boost and too lean from your mods. before you do anything else and before you floor your car again buy a boost gauge. if it goes over 10psi LET OFF!. next buy a bigger fuel pump. that'll keep it safe to around 10psi. but I bet you are hitting 15. |
I am hitting about 10 psi even(aftermarket gauge), but one of my friends who is a mechanic said he thought my FC was running rich. Thx for being nice to a noob :) But you guys always make me so damn nervous bout my baby :)
BTW scott are you running the same exhaust as me? If so did it mess up your air/fuel mixture?
You could possibly be running rich in low rpms but not where it counts, top end. I haven't gotten any real power mods yet myself for fear of blowing my engine.
alright my walbro fuel pump is now in the mail and the FC is in state of perpetual parkedness until it arrives :) Hopefully not to late....
Ya I just got my walbro in. Got to install it along with my gauges and my fuel filter. Think a DP/MP might be next on the list and then the s-afc.
