question about the brakes
 

ok so i got new rear calipers and the ebrake is curently detached because i'm wating for a new drivers side cabel i do have brakes at dam near the bottem of the floor but i don't have that much braking power untill i get the peadel down there my machanic said that the ebrake has some to do with it

note if i pump it the peadel stifens up to normal peadel presure

any one got a clue ?

did you bleed the brakes?

yep they have been blead

master cylinder. has to be. theyre like 40$ from some website..

edit: how to test brakes. pump the brake up a few times while the cars on, then hold it. if it holds pressure, your master cylinder is still good. if the pedal slowly loses pressure.. then new master cylinder.

well it holds the presure after being apumped a coupple times

By holding pressure we mean stand on the brake for 30 seconds.
The pedal should not sink at all.

If the pedal feels "spongy", you still have air in the lines.
Also check the hoses for any weak spots.

If you have to pump the pedal, but then it feels firm like you describe, then the pads are pulling back too far or you have a warped rotor.

try bleeding the brakes again. if the problem remains replace the master cylinder. i had mine blow out while i was driving so better safe than sorry.

from what i under stand my machanic said because the ebrake is not hooked up at all (wating for a new cabil to come in ) the calipers are spaced out more then normal and they require extra peadel to get them to work

it makes a little sence in my minde beceus the fact of bumping the brakes the pads are making contact with the rotors and when you start to pump it it builds up more and more presure

Bleed them again. The e-brake cable (IIRC) should not be putting any pressure on the connector when it is attached and thus should not affect the braking levels when it is not attached.

If you replaced the calipers, then you had a lot of air in the system. Did you rap the calipers with a hammer a few times to dislodge all the bubbles that could form? Are you using speed bleeders (which have problems bleeding with lots of air in the system).

no hammer i just spent 3 days painting them and tuching up missed spots

i'm shure me machanic will bleed them agian if there still spongie when i get the cabel replaces wed or thursday
