question about brake pads and rotors.
 

well i just bought an 87 t2 and i figure it could use some new brake rotors. i will probably buy the oem replacement from tirerack.com and hps street pads i want to know if i should replace the lines as well or should i wait until i do a full upgrade using aftermarket rotors? thanks.

If I were in your position, I'd make sure you do need rotors first(expensive and you won't be able to tell much difference anyway). If you want improved braking, get better pads and lines, and the most important part of the entire slowing system, grippy tires. The pads will make a noticable difference with stock rotors, and the pedal should feel more solid with stainless lines. If you're looking into paying $100 per corner on rotors, just think what you could do with $400 somewhere else on the car?

i wasnt sure if i should. i will look at them tomorrow and see how good of a condition they are in. but the reason i am considering it is that i found rotors for 53$ a piece.

I'd still check first and write down where you can get them cheap. I think the originals are plenty good and will usually wear pretty slowly, as long as some crap hard pads weren't stuck on there(not necessarilly performance hard pads, just cheapo junk ones). Even $53 comes to over $200 for all four, or more than $100 for one pair. Good luck with them not being out of spec! $100 bucks or more can get some much more noticable upgrades.

thanks. i might just have them resurfaced. and then buy the performance pads that jason offers.

check the lines to see if they need replacing. stainless steel braided lines to firm up the feel of the braking and are not much more expensive than the oem rubber ones. if your current lines look beat, you might as well upgrade them.

as for the brake rotors, you've got pm, i've got hookups on them :)
