Question about the 6 ports and VDI for S5 N/A
 

I know that with S4 N/A cars, you can rev it up while parked and the 6 port sleeves will turn, are the S5's supposed to do the same or do they only move when under load?

Also the VDI, should I be able to see it move if I rev it in nuetral?

Is there a for sure way to make sure these are functioning properly?

I have a question about the VDI sctuator, myself. My actuator will open under pressure but will not hold pressure like the 6Ports will. Do I need to replace this part or will it work descently as long as it does not leak to bad?

Both the 6ports and the VDI only open when the car is moving. I don't know what the exact trigger is but people usually just say, under load. You can get a MightyVac from the loaner tool program at Autozone and hook the hoses up to the pressure outlet on the top of the MityVac and see if they open or not. You can also hook 12V to the elec. solednoid and see if it will close the vent (this procedure is written in the Haynes Manual).

both the 6pi actuators and the VDI actuator is provided positive pressure when the car is under "load". i forget the exact requirements, it's in the FSM. but basically from my experience you have to be more than 50% throttle while in gear.

they open at:
6pi ~3800 RPM
VDI ~5500 RPM

on the stock vacuum rack also, the VDI solenoid is inline (or in series) with the 6pi. this means that the VDI solenoid will not get air until the 6pi solenoid opens.
