Angry Quarter mile times

I went to the track last week to see what my car runs and was kinda dissapointed.
I have a 88 N/A RX which I think is an SE.

I ran 5 times and i ran 18.0xx constantly.

My reaction times sucked.
My best was a .757

My end speed was about 75-77mph each time.
My 1/8 i think was 2.67(not sure if thats right).

My car has 144k miles on it and runs well. Only real problem is my front struts are shot.
I was wondering if this would be considered normal since it has alot of miles on it.

I also just noticed my crossmember tranny bushing is gone so it clunks when shifting. I'll be fixing this this week but would that cause any damage to the tranny or rearend?

well I'm done blabbing.

Ok so this is a stock car right? Well the 2.67, unless mph , is not your 1/8 mile. It is prolly your 60' time which is the reason for the bad ET. Drop that down to like 2.2 or so and you will prolly be in the 16s. Oh and has the car had a recent tuneup? Replaced or removed cats?

It's completely stock. I did a complete radiator flush and oil change. The only thing I didn't change yet are the spark plugs. At $6 a piece I can't afford them yet. It also has the stock cats on it. Haven't looked at cats to see if their gone or not.
How do you drop your 60 time.

Well you should change the plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, and cats(or get rid of them) plus run some fuel system cleaner to see closer to stock times. You need to work on your launch. Try different methods. Try holding the rpms to 4k drop it. Try feathering it from 5k, try everything. With different cars, drivers, tires its hard to say. I usually rev it pretty high and ease off the clutch then floor it.

Thanks for the tips. I got a semi-used K&N for my stock airbox and I already put fuel injector cleaner through the thing. I forgot about the fuel filter. Next on my todo list.

When I ran I had bald tires on the rear but now I got new ones. When I launched I would go at about 2500RPM cause I spun them for a second then grabbed. I shifted at about 6800 to 7k RPM also. I finished each time at about 6500-7k RPM in third.

Ya tires could have been most of the problem. Can't expect stock stats out of a car that is 12+ years old AND not up to stock specs.

Here are my times that I just got no more than 1 hour ago. Here is my best run.....

1/4 mi e.t. - 16.496
1/4 mi mph - 83.254
60' - 2.351
1/8 mi e.t - 10.567
1/8 mi mph - 66.031

I was happy, considering a 90 degree outside temp.

1) Tune - up
2) Practice
3) Kick ***

your car is a 16.5 sec car STOCK. there is no reason you should be in the 18's (that's econobox territory )!!

Get some headers, exaust, K&N, port the intake manifolds, learn to launch, and you'll be in the 15's

Try launching at about 3500-4000 rpm's. I was launching at 4000-4500 all night, and got some decent 60ft times.

Also, remember that the weather at this time of year wont help one bit. It was about 25-30 degrees warmer this time to the track. My previous bests are in my sig, and that was on a nice mid 60 degree day. So I know my car is a little quicker now, even though my numbers dont show it. My 60ft is consistantly 2.35 now. I am happy about that.

stock base, sport 86-88 7's are 15.9 second cars completely stock, guy posted a time a while back on his completely stock 88 base, he ran a 15.84.

last time i ran i did a 16.8@76mph, just improve on the launch and get shifting down good, find where your comfortable, get that crossmember thing fixed

my very first ever launch at the strip i had a .523 R/T :-D my best was a .51 that day

Stock 1/4 mile numbers CAN be beat with a stock car. Why?? Because when they test car times theres a driver, full tank of gas and all fluids, and 30 pounds worth of equipment. If you go to the track with 1/4 tank of gas or less, empty washer fluid resevior, and remove spare tire/jack, you can save close to 100 pounds depending on your weight.

They can also be hard to achieve too. Very professional drivers in ideal conditions. Just look between the car mags and their 0-60 and 1/4 in the new Cobra. It's all over the map. I believe Car and Driver has gone the fastest with it so far. Then again when the lightning came out they said it'd only run mid 14's (correct me if I wrong). Went to the track and watched a stock one blast off a 13.98 (before the update). This could also be due to slight changes between a test mule that some of these mags get and the actual production vehicle. Kinda like the SSR we have here at TRW....the thing is BEAT and shouldn't really represent what the true SSR will do.
