Putting wheels on my car, modification question? :)

Ok I got a 88 vert, and Im putting some 16" Billet wheels on. I got them cheap from a friend :) The back are perfect no problems... But I got a problem with the front wheels, the fins on the wheels hit the little square stick out thingy on the caliper. Anyone know if I can just grind it off? Heres a picture I marked it in red marker...

THANKS!

Uh, what kind of rims are you trying to run?

They look like this... (see pic) I got them cheap as hell and keep in mind that there isnt that much gap in the wheel well... The car is jacked up in the side... :)

i cant believe you went with 3 spoke... sorta.

well, take that thing to a vertical belt sander and have fun!:D

I guess :) LOL Its only money.... screw it, cant be anything on that side of the caliper. Oh well guess we'll find out, if I see brake fluid I'll know.

You're better off buying a 1/2 spacer. That will solve your problem, and you won't need to grind anything.

1/2 inch spacer will also give me 1/2 inch of threads im not securing my wheel too :) Damn the dilemia... Thought this would be simpler, someone would have an extra in the garage, that they could run and look at :) Well I guess it was harder than it had to be :(

Thanx :)

Plus, any spacers might make the tire stick out of the wheel well = bad for paint.

I imagine before you go grinding away, you should get a rebuild kit, then take the calipers apart and look inside. That may well be a passeage for brake fluid between the two pistons on that side. Sure, it'll take longer, but it will be well worth it if you save yourself from having to buy a new/used caliper because you ruined yours.

P.S. nobody I know of has good calipers that they're going to junk on a hunch that you can sand something off of them. I have at least two pair of them myself, but they can always be sold if I have to... Just a thought.

well if you look in jegs they ,make a lot of different sizes of those spacers,,find one that is not too much. that raises an interesting question,,,i know some wheels won't fit becuse they have a front wheel drive or a rear wheel drive offset,,,does this apply to the RX7 or is this just for older rear drive vehicles,,,i mainly ask because i have set of rims on my probe that i want to put on the 7 when i am done,,,i know the bolt pattern is the same but i didn't know about the offset

I will sell you my stock 87 TII wheels for cheaper than those and you can sell those to someone to put them on a car that started out ugly. The TII wheels will fit and look like they were meant to be on there!

Thought this might help:
Start with the factory offset & rim width & go from there.

Thanks for all the help... By the way there isnt anything there, its just a casting mark, no big deal... There on there and working perfectly... By the way I paid $200 for all 4. The tires have only 4k on them. I think Im gonna sell them around spring and get some 17" 's. These just have too much gap in the wheelwell. Plus they are almost 1 inch shorter than the stock ones... By the way these wheels came off a buddy of mine's Dodge Neon..

Thanx guys
