putting sideskirts on
i recently bought some sideskirts, but they dont come with the clips. I was wondering if doubleside tape would work and how strong are the double sided tape? would i need to drill some holes to be sure that it'll hold on? thanks

If you're gonna drill holes for the tape anyways, why not glue some clips onto the back of the skirts and use the drill holes for the clips and use those along with the tape so you get a better fit.

A buddy of mine has doublesided tape holding his rain deflectors over his windows on and they are rather stable.
Doubt I'd risk it on side skirts though... |
don't take chances. use actual fasteners. clips, bolts, screws, rivets, zipties, whatever.

FWIW, I've installed a number of kits at the shop and any Wings West kit I've done used 3M two face tape....but we also use windshield urethane as an additional anchor.
If the skirts allow (bomex is a perfect example) to have a couple of rivets put in, then do it. Allow meaning, the skirt has a recess in it allowing the rivet head to be FG'd over... But two face tape and urethane on the top, along with fasteners on the bottom (in most cases) is all you'll ever need. Bear in mind, if you bump something, the skirt will be LESS damaged if it allowed to be torn from the body, if its bolted on like an iron fist its going to tear to shreds when (sorry, IF) you nail a curb or what have you. |
