Push Button/Toggle - Ignition switch
 

Can someone tell me what the wires on an 86 GXL ignition switch belong to??

RB - Red Black
b - blue
BY - Black Yellow
BW - Black White
WR - White Red
BR - Blacl Red
B - Black

I have lost the only key for it, and I was planning on making a "starting panel" anyway. You know, like a really swank WRC panel on the console where I used to have A/C.

starting panel, aka no key just push a button and go?

if your suggesting that, first things first a cheap easy way to do this is get a 15amp push button switch from NAPA or another parts store... they run from $5-$15... ok now are you going to use multiple toggle switches to tell the car which mode its in? like A/C, Run, and most importantly OFF???? what i recomend is what i did to my lil bro's truck the other day... he went to NAPA, and picked up a new key switch with new keys obviously and a 15amp push button switch that would look cool with his dash (NAPA has thier part books and can show you all the push button switchs they have or can order... just ask them if you can look and see which ones they have or can order)... we took out his old keyswitch and put in the new one so that way someone couldn't just break in, find a toggle switch and a push button and steal his truck... so now what we did was wired one side of the push button to an AC power out wire from the fuse box and one to the exciter side of the silinoid... of course we took out the old exciter wire because that was one of the reasons we were putting a push button in, in the first place... i can't remember how much a key switch is for sure, but i know it wasn't expensive... well i hope i helped you out n good luck!!

What are you referring to when you say keyswitch?

ummmm............. how r u going to steer the car with no key? won't it lock up on you?

I have taken off the ignition switch, yes, the lock is off of the column.(lots of drilling). I could get anotherignition switch, but I dont want to use a key. This is a track car. It doesnt have windows in the doors. Just rollbar, seats, and lots of goodies. I need to make a panel and put all of the switches in it.. I need advice...
