pulsation dampener
i hear alot of stuff about these catching on fire were is it at and how can i fix the problem?

its on the primary rail under the intake manifold. it should have a little yellow looking cover on it. looks like a little shroom.

What year? If you have a 1989 or later, you have no problems. If it is a 88 or before, buy the fuel rail off of a 89+. The PD is the piece on the end of the fuel rail. Of the earlier models, it was a separate piece on the fuel rail. On 89+, it was a part of the fuel rail.
|
The PD on a 88 or before will look like MazdaRx7Power described. On a 89+, it is a black knob on the end of the rail.

Here's a link to the different options you have of replacing them:

Hey Cracker, something like this:
|
its a series 4 how hard is it to install a 89+ fuel rail anything special have to be done
|
I'm pretty sure all you need to do is swap the injectors over, and plug it all back in. Better research it though.

do the N/A's and the T2's have the same problems with these? will a 89+ bolt straight up?
|
ahhhh my experience is needed :D
ok all you need for the switch is the 89+ fuel rail. and a couple of nuts that will fit over the bolts that hold it in (89+ bolts will work if you can get em) take off your intake manifold and unhook the fuel lines from the fuel rail. (you may want to do this and leave it for 15 minutes cuz of the fumes) oh yeah cover your lower intake with something so you dont drop anything down there. remove the bolts fron the fuel rail and take the injectors out. if the O-rings are ok just put some vaseline around them, if not you must replace them. the 86-8 bolts are too long for the S5 fuel rail so you have to thread a nut all the way down on each bolt. then put it in the place of the S4 fuel rail that whole thing is fairly simple if you are good with tools. oh yeah you have to get new fuel lines because the S4 ones arent the correct length, just remember to get high pressure fuel line for fuel injected engines. . any questions??? yes all S4s have this problem and all S5 fuel rails should fit on all S4s

Originally posted by Aaron Cake No, No NO! :) The 89+ injectors are a different impedance than the 86-88 injectors. They are NOT directly swappable. To use the 89+ fuel rail, all you need is the rail itself, and the fuel hose that goes with it. |
can't you just tighten up the screw that falls out of the PD and prevent the fire
