Project update - pretty orange bedliner
4 Attachment(s)
check it out, my next update will show those silver cradles mounted along with my tirelessly polished control arms, painted suspension and new steel lines
ill be interested to see just how well the bedliner will stand up to the harsh abuse of the highways - and doesn't that welded logo, stand out nice with it's silver paint? |
AWSOME!!!! thats how I have always envisioned my restoration to happen!
Thanks for the pix bro. -a |
thanks for the props sunshine
|
looks good, but excuss my stupidity but what is the point of painting it?
|
looks
and its not paint its a two part epoxy sprayable truck bed liner with orange urethane paint in the mixture, as well it adds a great deal of protection for the new floor since there is just shy of 4 gallons sprayed on it (its approx. 1/4" thick in the wheel wells) also i have a difinitive hatred for rust being that im a body man so i want it to stand up really well |
Damn, thats alot of work...I admire your attention to detail. Something like this will be happening to my car come the end of the season. Keep us posted.

Silverrotor - you are in Toronto?
I own a shop just south of Hamilton - Classic Auto Body inc. - if you would like to pay to have it done, im planning on keeping my rotisserie around...if not i can tell ya just to do it if we all stick together we'll keep these things beautiful |
But all the weight... :D LOL, just kiddin'
That's a very nice job... I'm doing similiar on mine, but without the rotissire, just grinding, priming and bedlining. I'm hoping it withstands the elements, although my car is a dry summer day only vehicle that is stored inside anyway (what can I say, I share your intense hatred of rust ;)) Keep up the great work, can't wait to see that car all done! |
I was going to ask where Hagersville was but decided I was going to do a search. I'm from Toronto and forsee myself living here for the rest of my life. :D But seriously, you should come out to our meets and provide some additional Insight to your project.
I have a friend (Body man) that used to work at Maranello Motors. He repaired crashed up Lamborghinis, Porsches etc there. We worked out an exchange basis on wiring up his Shop (which Incidently Is In his backyard) for an Immaculate paint job on my car. I plan on stripping my FC to the condition that yours Is In, glassbeading the suspension components, new Bushings and many more things I could go Into detail with - but I don't want to hijack your thread. Current pics can be found here: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=324100 It's nice to know another hardcore 7 owner that goes all out In the pursuit of excellence. |

I did a quick n dirty paintjob last spring, and it turned out pretty damn good :) I didn't have any rust to worry about, and the car always seems to have something pretty major break before winter starts so I never worry about that, either... :)
That looks REALLY good, I'll probably come pay you a visit sometime in the near future, I'm in hamilton alot. I want to see the car :) |
to give you guys a general idea on my location
have you ever heard of Toronto Motorsports Park/Cayuga Dragway? if so i am about 5 min west of it on Indian line (regional road 20) just off of highway 3 |
Trust Me that stuff is about as durable as you can get. I know a guy back east who covered his bronco in that stuff and even though he has dented a few fenders and quarterpanels he has neve scratched the stuff. THe only problem you will have with that stuff is dirt and grime accumilating in the nooks and crannys. Even after presure washing it's hard to get out. But on the bright side you dont have to worry about rust on the underbody and you WILL notice lower temps inside the car.
|
i also thought after this i'll be able to ditch the sound deadening material on the underside of the carpet, i mean you notice a big difference from when you tap on the floor after it was sandblasted clean, to after i put the bedliner on. now when you tap it sounds far more muffled, hopefully ditching the sound insulatoin will help equalize the wieght factor (even though im not anal on that)
|
That is really sweet. I went as far as I could with my car, sandblasting it and such... but didn't get the underside. NICE JOB!!

Bringing back an old thread---my shell is completely stripped and Im looking to have the surface rust blasted, some holes filled and the whole shell repainted. Do you have any more pics of your work?
|
Whoa, this is a thread from the dead...
...maybe you should contact him directly? I own a shop just south of Hamilton - Classic Auto Body inc. i am about 5 min west of it on Indian line (regional road 20) just off of highway 3 Location: Hagersville Ontario |
Damn! That's nice work. Sure wish I had the space to do something like that.
|
I wish I had the car rotisserie to do that ;) ...and the car :(
|
great color choice! now only if the rest of the car was that color!
