problems with the gauge cluster
alright people, this one just makes my jaw drop...and the only thing i can think of doing is trying a re-pin on the cluster...
87 na....swapped in 91 jdm motor. used jdm engine harness and usdm body harness... was having problems with my s5 gauge cluster....fuel gauge, volt meter, and cluster not lighting up.... couldn't figure it out... tried an s4 tII cluster.... all gauges except speed o aren't working...i understand the tac not working cause of the series difference...so now i need to see if a usdm s5 gauge cluster will work... anyone know or think as i do that this will fix the problem? or am i gonna have to do some repining to make it work? if anyone locally had a freakin cluster that i could use just to see if it worked i would really appreciate it. otherwise i gotta go spend like 40 bucks at the junkyard just to take a chance on it working. |
i'm pretty sure the engine harness has nothing to do with the gauge cluster working. i am using an s5 cluster in my s4 car without the stock ecu/engine harness and it works fine. i had to repin the small gauge cluster with the black and white round plugs.

i don't see how your using a s5 engine harness with a s4 body harnes but anyway you need to repin the black and white plugs as mentioned above and your speedo doesn't work because it mechanical.

sorry correction...damn i hate when i do this....everything is messed up on the cluster for the s4 TII cluster except for the speed o. the speed o works fine. everything else is not functioning...
maybe that'll clear it up a little.... my apologies. its not lighting up...and not functioning except for the speed o... the harness is s4 na and the gauges are from an s4 TII...i dont understand the problem except for the tach (because unless im wrong the tach reads from the ecu i believe) |
87 t-66: what does you running not a stock ecu/harness mean? im talking about running the stock harnesses and s5 jdm 374 ecu tuned by re-amemiya.
im sorry just trying to figure out wha tyou mean? if you're talking u mixed series and it didn't matter as long as the harness plug was re-pinned then that is cool and im pretty sure i can figure that out fine...actually if you had a diagram of exactly what goes where that would be awesome...like this one: https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...7&d=1096278465 preferably turbo gauges...and again GOING FROM s4 (wiring harness) ---> s5 (gauges) thanks again guys. you're the best! |
Are you saying you have a JDM series five EM harness attached to the engine, but are using the stock series four FRONT harness.
Or put another way......your using a JDM harness on the engine and all the other harness in the car are the stock non turbo, series four 1987 harnesses? Or? |

this is for repinning from s4 to a s5 gauge cluster

ill sell you a s4 t2 cluster
and as for the title........ dude.... |
slpin...as far as the title goes, if you knew the stuff i've been through with the wiring disaster and that i was working with icemark a lot on trying to fix it, you would understand. i was midway through when sadly he passed. so please dont get hurt/upset about that...if anything its homage to how important he was especially to me. thanks.
oh and thanks for offering to sell me an s4 t2 cluster, but if you had read my initial post, i wrote that i have one and tried using that as well. so i wont be needing another one. as far as the other info: 87, if i could afford a haltech please believe that i would buy that baby right now and be extremely happy. the haltech setup we used on my partner's 86 corolla with 20 valve swap has worked wonderfully and i'd love to put it in my fc. to have all the other junk in there taken out would be a complete relief and honestly, the ability to tune the car is fantastic. -Yes the jdm harness for the engine (s5) and the rest of the harnesses for the body are all s4 non turbo US. hailers: thank you very much sir for the pics. i will try that (just grab the plug from a pick a parts locally and repin it to work for the s5 cluster and see if that does the trick. thanks again everyone. ill post when i get a chance to experiment a little more. |
crap!!!! what in the world would cause the dash lights (that turn on when you flip your lights on) and the left blinker indicator and the shift light buzzer to go off when i flip the right turn signal switch? (i mean what would cause that other than crappy wiring jobs) any ideas on what to look for?

im starting to wonder if it would be easier to just swap out the wiring harnesses and be done with the nonsense...
|
The harness that connects to the instrument cluster.........what car did that come from? The harness with the two round plugs.
|
it should (i use should because i dont believe it was changed out during the swap) be the s4 na. its slightly possible that the s5 jdm one was used but very highly unlikely...some evil wiring work was done to my car and ended up costing me up the you know what and not really fixing everything it was supposed to. if you want i can post up a couple pics to show you what im talkin about...its pretty close to a nightmare...i've seen worse but man...it is pretty bad.

guys if you check this thread go to my other thread it has pictures and more details

Just wondering on the Black circle plug L there is no tan and Green on my s4 harness mine is white and green that is the only color that is even close to that.
