problems!
i have an 87 rx-7 cant remember the model but anyways the guy i bought it off of frize the block one night and had to rethaw it out again...it gets REALLY cold in canada...anyways well ever since then he says the engine gets really hot to the point of overheating after awhile of driving
so what could the problem be? it is the apex seals what will a rebuild cost me and how hard is it for me to do? (im slightly mechanically inclinded so i know some things) any help would be awesome :icon_tup: |
Check your cooling system for small leaks/ breaks in any hoses etc. and make sure you're not losing any fluid in your coolant reservoir. Also make surrre you atleast have a premix or straight anti freeze in your system, you don't want the water to freeze. It could also be your thermostat, if it's stuck closed it won't allow coolant to flow through your engine to cool it. Worst case scenario, the block/ housing cracked or a seal broke and you're losing coolant internally through either the exhaust or into your oil pan. Keep us updated, Goodluck man

will do ill do a bunch of checks and its the apex seals that ill need to replace? how hard is it to replace those? and the guy i bought it off of said it could be the internal water jacket???
|
You sound anxious to change the apex seals. lol only thing to change those is a complete rebuild, not just as easy as changing something if you think thats all it is.
|
haha yes you do sound anxious for those seals to get replaced..... the apex seals should only be condemned if they don't hold compression, first check to see how your cooling system is, and if it's in minty condition then you'll need to do some more testing before you condemn your apex seals.

haha sry its just i want a good car :D
anyways well i was running it and when i was it ran fine started with the greyish smoke at first then it was fine took it for a light cruise came back shut her off wait for alittle bit and started her again but with one problem...now it wont idle properly....aswell it has an aftermarket exhaust but when i have the car in nuetral it tends to shake i can feel the car shaking at certain rpms...?? any help would be awesome |
well now you may need apex seals, lucky you! lol.
anyways, start with a compression test. be sure the water level is topped off and then pressure test the cooling system, sometimes an internal leak in the engine will show up on the cooling system pressure test. |
