problem with TB mod.

the throttle body mod seems all well and good, and all the threads i've read about it seem to all point to the same how-to, but its missing one critical thing. getting the damn TB off the engine!! it would probbably be easiest to remove the entire upper intake right? but how do i do that?

Uh, it depends. N/A or TII? If it's an N/A, you've only got to remove the intake plastic bits.

If it's a TII, you've got to remove the IC, then the UIM+TB+IC elbow. It's a good bit more involved.

yeah, i got the IC off, and undid a bunch of bolts, 4 on the UIM flange, and 1 in the very middle, but the thing still woudlnt move at all.

Theres a coolant hose on the underside holding it on.

Ive said it a million times before, I hate that F'n hose.

Funklord Jun 20, 2002 03:56 AM

but woudlnt it be able to at least slide around a little?
it still feels bolted on

Just those five and the one on the drivers side that holds the metal inlet duct in place. Maybe the hose for the bac are holding you down. Or the hose on the rear that is for the brake booster. Plus the three small vac hose on the front and the three/four vac hose on the rear.
But I would have expected to see some movement when you lifted up on the manifold. I suspect some paranoid fool glued the intake and gasket at the point where you described the four bolts plus one in the middle. Do take a look at that large vac hose for the brake booster at the rear, and make sure its loose.

Funklord, mine was the SAME way.
I had to eventually use a fucking CROWBALL to break my upper intake manifold lose from the lower manifold.
I had eveything undone and it just wouldn't budge.
The dumbass previous owner had getto rigged the gasket by reusing the old one and glue it down with that liquid gasket shit. Took me 2 days to clean that shit off, it was like concreate. Even the chemical disolver didnt hurt it.
Fucken previous owners...

besides a crowbar, what would help to loosen it?
WD-40 maybe?
