Problem with new engine
I've now have 354km on my new engine. today it started running really rough. It idles ok, but as soon as i hit the gas, it won't go over 3000 RPM and it backfires and pops and revs up and down like crazy. I replaced the AFM with one off my parts car, and adusted the throttle cable and it still does it. what could it be? anyone have some thoughts on this? Thanks for any help

Sounds like your TPS went bad. I would check not only the adjustment, but voltage or resistance across it's entire range. Good luck!

Where is the TPS located? is it easy to access? the car seems to run fine one day, then rough the next. thanks for the help.

check ur plugs... with a new engine like that .. they foul out quick.... just talkin from experience...

Ok, I've fixed the Idle and backfireing problem, it was the TPS, I replaced it with the one off the parts car, The car runs great up to 3700, where the good ol' 3700 hesitation kicks in. I've tried taking the wiring harness off of the secondaries and squirting some wd40 into the connectors, and pushed them on good. What are some other options I can try to get my 7 purring, man I can't wait to get the engine broken in and have some fun!!!
any thought? Thanks again, you guys have already helped alot |

Is this what you are referring to?? If so, it's a minor annoyance, drive the car and enjoy. At your leisure, you can check grounding as per the FC3S.org (or is it TEAMFC3S.org?) site. If not, what is it exactly that the car is doing wrong? Irv, Keith's dad  |
ok, the problem is right at 3700rpm, since the engine is new, I haven't pushed it passed 5000rpm, but as soon as I hit 3700, the car chugs and hesitates, then it roughly accelerates, but not very quick and not smooth at all. I don't think this is a minor problem, It doesn't seem drivable over 3700. if it isn't 3700 hesitation, what else could it be?
thanks for the help. |
You be dogging your new engine. How many miles does that convert to?

ah, probably about 250 roughly, I've only pushed it to 5000 once to see if the hesitation continues up the RPM range, and it does. I not gonna push it that far again untill 1000km(800 or so miles)

It could be that the secondary fuel injectors(or one of them)are not working.Maybe the resistor pack is defective or one or both injectors.

Uh wd40 is a lubricant not an electrical contact cleaner. It will leave a film that can cause bad connections. Use some proper eletrical contact cleaner.

yea, I'm no electrical wiz, but I'm wondering about the WD40 :) did you try chewing gum? :)
