Premix....engine OIL?

already did a search, and didn't find the subject(s) I was looking for so....

I did an oil change on my newly-bought-used 86 GXL a couple weeks ago, and the engine oil reek'd of fuel. I thought, to myself, "previous owner was running premix in his engine?" I still have my OMP in there so, i just continued the oil change. Now, a couple weeks later, I've decided to add some premix to the gas tank. 1/2 quart for a full tank. I'm yet to drive it around. Just some thoughts, is it normal for engine oil to reek of gas? does it mean the engine was flooded at one point, or he was running premix as engine oil for some reason? And, will adding premix to the gas tank while keeping the OMP help at all?~since its still injecting normal oil that can cause carbon build up? thanks.

sorry in advance, if there was a thread on these already and I missed it. just direct me to those threads. ;)

Probably was badly flooded at some point...I mix MMO even though my omp is still hooked up. Won't hurt.... good luck and welcome to the "club"

My OMP is hooked up but doesnt work at all - I dont loose any oil at all.

My oil reaks of gas too. All the time.

Oil smelling of gas is a sign of a few things:

1. The car has been flooded
2. The car run excessivly rich (most FCs do)
3. The engine might be wearing out...any oil smoke from the exhaust?

It really has nothing to do with running premix or not...Also, why run premix if the stock setup is still there? If you were racing, or otherwise driving so that the engine spent much of it's time at high RPM, then go for it. Otherwise, you'll save the money and hassle if you just let the stock metering oil pump do it's work...

No oil smoking coming out the exhaust, engine runs strong. I only have 105k miles on the engine. The half quart really made a difference. MY car doesn't buckle or jump when im in rear slowing down under 2k anymore. I guess thats a sign my OMP is dead, or die'n. Cool. I guess i have to start dropping 2 stroke in there. :p:
