So...Today I felt like putting the three new lugs that MAX sent out for me since the others seemed to be cut wrong or wrong threading (not to mention F*##ed up one of my ARP studs:icon_no2:) and came to find a very disturbing thing....

and if it is supposed to be "aluminum" then why did I not get "aluminum" lugs the first time!!!!


I emailed them with the same pics here and asked what was going on. So if anyone else has had this problem or plans to order lugs make sure you double check.

theyre are two versions of the powered by max lug nut and i think they sent you a steel version. Both got different colors, they release the steel version since a lot people break those aluminum lug nuts and they stripped so easily

Damn...the steel version sucked balls yo. The threads are not as nice as the aluminum

why would you use aluminum lug nuts unless you have a deathwish??

sounds like a horrible idea, not only because they will strip but they will also grab and gall up the lug nut tapers in the wheels. i'm sure they are trying to phase out the craptastic aluminum versions.

you wonder why they screwed up the steel studs? duh, because wheel lugs shouldn't be aluminum.

Could be. Maybe I will get clarification from the guys over there. I was just annoyed at how crappy the threads of the steal ones are. Kind of pissed me off is all.

I'd buy some other brand instead. I've been nothing short of happy with my Muteki's.

I've been running aluminum lugs for 4 years with no issues. I don't let tire shops put them on w/impact hammers but other than that, no special treatment. Oddly enough they were from vision motorsports (or some similar sounding eBay outfit and cost about 1/3 what these blinged out versions are being peddled for these days.

As karack pointed out, they are fairly easy to damage, so I'd rather have and extra set than pay more for a logo, especially since they are most likely all made in the same Chinese factory.

Further more PBM quality control seems to be pretty lax, my brother just sent back his weighted shift knob for his 240 because the threads were screwed up.

The nut behind the wheel is the one buying the $100+ shipping lug nuts. And it's not Gold Encrusted, it's Krylon.

I'm not a nut. I just wanted to support PBM. I felt their suspension was good and wanted to represent them with something that was just as important to my car.

Sadly, I will not make that mistake again. I will try to get things figured out with them and worst case scenario is I send them back for a refund.

Well actually worst is they won't help me with my situation lol. But they should be ok with helping me.

don't you know! Porsches use aluminum lugs, probably because they get damaged easily and are expensive.

edit, maybe its land rover? some oem does it. if its a German company they ARE trying to kill you, if its British, it was an accident and they maybe couldn't get a steel one to short out the electrical system properly

Buy whatever lug-nuts you want, bro. It's your car, your money and YOUR choice. Don't listen to a bunch of Hippocrates with $3000 JDM wheels and spit-shined intercoolers try to tell you that a hundred bucks is too much to spend.

Powered By Max sells cheapie ricer/drifter crap. Good race-quality aluminum lug nuts are made out of forged 7075 alloy and can take many years of impact wrenching, and some even have a lifetime warranty.

ill let you know how they are..My engine bay bolts/nuts are a couple hundred bucks so they are spendy, but hopefully you get what you pay for...:lol:


yea no problem just thought I'd help or assist people before they had their studs crapped out too lol. I also found it kind of funny how people think $100 is "a lot of money". Wonder what they think a lot of money is for suspension?:lol:

I expect to pay for what I get. However, there are cases, like in this one, that I do not always pay for what I get. Therefore, it is a hit or miss in this market. I will not make the same mistake twice and will learn from each and every experience. :icon_tup:
