power window help

hey everyone, i was tired of my passenger window going up super slow so i took off the driver door today and now i dont know what to do. :( :wallbash: is there a write up or can someone please explain what to clean and how to take off the main power window switch from the door. thanks

FC3S_nataku 03-17-06 01:05 PM

help me, its hot out side and i would like to be done with this

classicauto 03-17-06 01:35 PM

S4 or S5? - S4's have the better switches...worlds of difference....

First off....the passenger's window is going up and down slowly...the regulator needs to be cleaned - so you took the DRIVER'S door panel off?

clean the tracks that the window slides in (at either end) as well as the linkages that move when you operate the window.......this one's not rocket science

FC3S_nataku 03-17-06 01:39 PM

crap, well i took off the drivers side door because i thought it was that the passenger switch is not getting power(passenger switch does NOT work) i thought i had build up on the switch. sorry about not explaing more. oh yeah its a S4 T2

FC3S_nataku 03-17-06 02:48 PM

can anyone at least explain how to remove switch from the door

ilike2eatricers 03-17-06 03:01 PM

unplug the switch then from the back side of the door panel use your finger or a flathead screwdriver and press in the to metal tabs on each end and it will pop out. you can also pry from the outside of the door panel but may mess up the panel surrounding the switch if you're not careful. it's really easy to get the switch out.

awesome! thanks,

FC3S_nataku 03-17-06 03:30 PM

ok, took me a whole 3 mins to get BOTH switchs out, now what am i looking for? i dont see any build up on the out side, should i check inside the switch?

FC3S_nataku 03-17-06 03:47 PM

dont want to break anything, please help

RotaryEvolution 03-17-06 03:51 PM

slow rolling windows are usually not a power supply problem, as CA said, clean out the window tracks the glass slides in with some glass cleaner and compressed air and wipe down the sliding motor linkages and re grease them.

FC3S_nataku 03-17-06 03:53 PM

but what about the passenger switch not working?

RotaryEvolution 03-17-06 03:58 PM

if the passenger side switch only isn't working then pop the back cover off it carefully, remove the rockers and clean all the contacts and reassemble.

FC3S_nataku 03-17-06 04:03 PM

how do i get this back cover off? im holding it in my hand right now and i see a clip i guess in the front and i guess another clip in the back.

RotaryEvolution 03-17-06 04:05 PM

there should be 2-3 small phillips screws holding the clips and cover on.

FC3S_nataku 03-17-06 04:10 PM

the only screws are on the clips that hold the switch to the door :(

RotaryEvolution 03-17-06 04:19 PM

got a picture? i haven't pulled a passenger side switch apart yet but it should be similar to the driver's side i would think.

FC3S_nataku 03-17-06 04:40 PM

its too big to put on here, can i email it to you?

RotaryEvolution 03-17-06 04:46 PM

i have to head out so host it here:

FC3S_nataku 03-18-06 09:34 AM

project 88 gxl 03-18-06 09:40 AM

Look inside the switch. All the current for the passenger motor goes through this switch and it gets hot. When it heats up, the plastic gets soft and the metal switch contact sinks into the plastic and the plastic pushes up around it. Then the metal contact on the switch lever never touches the one in the plastic. I opened mine up and used an xacto knife to trim the pushed-up plastic around the contact and all was well.

There was a write-up on how to put high-current relays in the door so that this wimply switch only has to drive the relay. I'm going to do mine this spring when the weather clears up.

somebody post a little more detail on how to clean the tracks, and how to/what type of grease to use on the linkage. All my switches work, but they are slow...and my passenger window kinda shudders a bit when you roll it down.
