Power Steering vs. Manual Rack
 

Ok I have powersteering right now and its not working, I checked it out and it looks as if i need new hose, but also I been thinking about a manual steering rack, now what is the difference, I know its manual, but I need peoples opinion on the manual steering, so please give me some good info.

ok but what are the benefits compared to a working powersteering?

My 1st car, had the manual rack.

My 2nd car, had a power rack...until I got sick of it, and swapped for a manual rack.


The only way to go, IMO.

Now is it hard to turn unlike a non working powersteering?

If you're a sissy....and you're sitting still in a parking lot, it can feel like a chore (still able to turn 1 handed)...but WAY easier than a non working power rack.

now a friend of mine who drifts in his T2 really missed his powersteering when he converted to manual rack, and ended up switching back

My first RX-7 didn't have power steering, my 2nd one did. I like PS a lot better than no PS.

It's wonderful for parallel parking and other steering-intensive driving at 0-3mph. Other than that it doesn't make a difference.

Drive RX-7's that have either rack.

Then make a solution based off the experience.

The manual rack has a slower ratio, meaning it'll take you more turns of the wheel to get the same amount of steering. This is the big disadvantage to manual racks. There's another option, depower the stock rack. There's a how-to in the archives (by me) on how to do just that. It gives the better feel and feedback of the manual rack, with the fast steering of the power rack. It's very livable, I've never regretted doing it.
