Power Steering questions

what are the advantages and disadvantages of getting rid of the power steering unit. i think that i would rather keep it but so many people are doing this.

On many of the S5 cars, the power steering system is Engine speed boost based. On these systems, the power steering seems like it is always on, and tends to give a more numb feel. Removing the power steering system on these cars gives a better feel.

On other models they came with vehicle speed sensing power steering. If the power steering computer is malfuctioning, the boost may drop out prematurly, leading to erratic steering feel. Again removing the power steering fixes this (or fixing or replacing the problem also fixes this- but FC owners tend to not want to spend money so removal is cheaper than fixing the car).

But a fully functioning vehicle speed sensing power steering system is a very good system, and does not need replacing or removal.

how does the manual rack feel compared to the power steering being removed? while we are on this topic i figured id ask...

advantages of Maunal of Over power:

Improved road feel/feedback.....

Disadvantges:

Harder to turn than power (yes its arguable and situational but nonetheless, its harder)
Slower steering capability (in motorsports such as drift, powersteering is preffered since the wheels can go from lock to lock much quicker then manual)

Depending on what you're using the car for I personally would fight to keep it, unless you're pulling so the G/F can't drive the car......hehe

It *feels* more finite...

Meaning say for example you are cutting the car around a corner is some sloppy water......when the front wheels break traction, the point can be felt very accurately - where as with power, the point where it breaks free is blurred by the power assist
