Which power steering pump? Pictures. Which one is which?

I have a 1988 Turbo II. It is a bit of a hackjob from the previous owners. I searched for months and couldn't find any pictures to help identify which pump is which.

I have 3 power steering pumps which are different from one another. I have tried replacing the one that was on there already with an identical pump. This did not fix my problem.

My problem is when the car is cold the power assist works fine, when its warmed up to operating temperatures then the power steering doesnt help as much.

If someone can identify what their power steering pump looks like on their S4 Turbo II that would be great.

The pump currently on the car:

A pump I just picked up for a great price: (This is the pump that is on my friends 87 N/A )

Here is another pump I have, but I havent seen one on an FC. I think it might be an FB p/s pump?

Im thinking that I may have put a pump from the S5 N/A (rpm sensing rather then speed sensing.) thinking it may be the problem im having.. Since my car was owned by a bunch of screw balls I don't even know which pump I am supposed to have on there.

So if anyone has any info on which pump is which, that would be great.
Thanks,
-Brian.

The pump in my car is speed sensing (found this out when the speedo cable went), and i have a S5 NA Vert. I didn't know there was such a difference.

As far as i know, it shouldn't really matter which pump you use, i think the ECU makes the adjustments in steering.

Hmm...the one in my '88 TII looks like the very first one with the "Koyo" brand. Isn't the S4 NA one identical? Not sure though.

Anyways, I'm getting ready to pull the engine out of my car in the next few weeks so I can get some really clear pics.

Hmm whats strange is I didn't think there was a difference either. But having 3 different pumps got me worried. I figured I would ask in hopes that it would be a simple answer like: "You stupid n00b, its the first pump, or second pump" ;) that would have made my day and made it easy. I think I may try and swap out that pump for the one I just got since its on the S4 N/A.

Whats strange is from what I heard the S4 N/A one is identical, which is what got me thinking to why the hell my pump looks different then my friends S4 N/A. Here I am asking that very question. So I was going to put the pump I have which looks identical to the S4 N/A one and pop it on there. See what happens.... Though its easy to ask someone else who knows these answers....

To my understanding the only car that had something different on it was the S5 N/A's with the different way of things....

hmmm strange... I appricate the comments, anything helps really in this sort of situation...

The S4 pump & S5 turbo pump (and parastie's vert):
Speed sensing variable assist.
3 hoses.

The S5 NA pump:
RPM sensing variable assist. (bad for autocross)
2 hoses.

I once repaired an S5 NA pump by replacing just the core pump from an S4 with the valves, tank & fittings from the S5.

Thanks for the info, I am pretty sure the pump I have shown not on the car, the one that looks like my friends N/A is the one that should be on there. Then again I guess we will see. I may just swap it out tonight. Or this weekend, whenever I can find the free time to do it...
