Power steering pump differences, s4 / s5

I currently have an s4 TII that I am installing the Greddy V-spec intercooler upgrade on. Unfortunately my current s4 TII P/S pump does not work with the new intercooler, so I need to upgrade to an s5 pump for clearance. That being said, what are the s5 p/s pump differences in regards to RPM vs. Speed sensitive? I'm not sure if it is the same pump with a different computer controlling them, different pumps with different computers, or different pumps with the same computer.

Thanks
Mike

Actually, I think you'll have *more* clearance with the earlier pump than the later.

It would be a SERIOUS chore to swap in the later pump - I believe there's even an additional hydraulic line that's not in the earlier pumps.

The 5th gen have 2 steering lines on the rack and 4th gen have 3. I don't think the 2 are compatible.

Dale, check out this thread, https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...threadid=64196 . It shows that turborotor swapped the s4 with an s5 and gained clearance around the shock tower for the intercooler piping. As far as the racks are concerned...I thought they were all the same, s4 and s5 when it came to power?

The one in his pic looks more like my S4 than the one on my S5. He also mentions 88 which is still a S4. Maybe the later S4 versions are smaller? Looking at the 91 parts list they also list a variable velocity steering (the 2 line powersteering is variable RPM). I'll try to remember to look at the power steering pumps I have.

s4 has speed sensitive steering. S5 has RPM sensitive steering. Speed sensitive may have been an option on S5.

I've been told that the s5 TII's had speed sensitive. But, I believe the pump was upgraded from the s4's? That's what I'm trying to figure out.
