Power Steering or No?
 

I am going to buy a 10th ann. edition RX-7. First of all, I did some search, but I can't find exactly what I am looking for. Does it come with power steering???? the steering felt really heavy when I test drove it. Is there anything that I am suppose to watch out for and look out for when I buy a RX-7? thanks you all very much for the reply ^.^

It may not have PS...did you look under the hood at all?

Biggest thing I can tell you to check is to take the rad. cap off (while engine is still cool) and see if it sprays coolent everywhere.

Also, unbolt the hose to the turbo compressor and check the shaft for play...should be very little if any and it should spin very easily.

no...it's not.

When I bought my S5 I bought it with a blown water seal. If you take the cap off and start the car nothing should come out...or at least not consistantly. If it blows water everywhere it will prolly need to be rebuilt.

i am really sorry, but i am so new to this rotary engine. water seal...i am guessing that's part of the engine, or am i wrong it's actually part of the radiator??? how much does it cost to rebuild one??? thanks!

Do you know the general concept of a rotory engine?

Front plate, rotor and housing, intermediate plate, rotor and housing, rear plate

The water seals are what are used instead of gaskets to seperate all of the pieces pretty much. So if a water seal is broken, then the entire engine has to be torn down to replace it, then rebuilt. It's the same as blowing a headgasket.

You can rebuild one yourself for about $500 if you're thrifty but in general a rebuilt one would have to be bought or a used one. That can range anywhere from free to $4000.

old and lack of care...a bunch of things can cause it but it's not a typical problem. The car would more likely be knocked up with electrical glitches than something that serious...I just caution people because it happened to me.

ahhh...thanks man!! i appreciated. well, this 10th ann edition that i was looking at has only 61000 miles on it. so i think it's going to be alright. thanks for every information though!

Milage means nothing. 4000 miles out of those 61000 could completely ruin the motor.

I noticed the same thing, once you get used to the way the car handles and how well it corners you'll be glad the steering is a little stiff. About the water spilling out when you take the cap off the radiater. When i had my radiator flushed water shot out when the cap was removed, but the engine was not cold because i drove it to the shop.
