Power Steering De-power using Oil Catch Can: Am I the only one?

I have been considering de-powering my rack the lazy way (looping the lines) but I am not really wanting to do it that way.. I also do not want to take the rack apart and remove seals etc.. So I was pondering another solution to the problem of wanting to take out the pump/bracket and de clutter the bay a little while still maintaining some fluid transfer..

I am going to use a univeral dual inlet oil catch can with a drain plug. Mount the can upsidedown with the drain plug at the top to act as a Power Steering resevour and then fill the can halfway with power steering fluid. Then I will connect hoses to the rack itelf and that should allow for fluid transfer. Should look cleaner in the engine bay and I won't have to do a bunch of work I don't want to.. If I don't like it I can always go back to stock... But if I like it not a bad solution for $20.

If anyone has done this already please post up your setup, I searched but came up empty..

I don't understand this "maintaining some fluid transfer" business.
If the fluid isn't working for you- i.e., being pushed by the pump- it's hurting you by adding drag, so why are you doing this?

I just took off the lines, turned the wheel each way, and got some screw in metal plugs. I autocrossed like that for a couple of years. It worked fine.

I just cut the three main lines and put bolts in them and fluid isn't coming out and water isn't getting in. I don't know why you would worry about a reservoir.

In my limited experience (only depowered 3 FC's the old fashioned way) the steering was a little tough. One time I used a pretty long section of hose and it made the steering easier. I attributed this to the extra fluid moving through the hose..
