power locks stopped working...

Hey guys, recently my power locks have stopped working. I'm not sure how these locks are setup...it seems to be dependant on the driver side lock..meaning you push that lock down...and the passenger door then locks....well now i push the driver's side lock down and the passenger side does nothing. Is this a typical problem? What are a few things I can check out? It's not a major issue I don't guess...just trying to fix some of the "nit-pick" stuff on the car.

First it is Power LOCK, not Locks.

The system in the FC and FD is a Follow Me system. What that means is that a switch in the drivers door, feeds a signal to the lock controller, which activates the passenger's door lock motor.

From your description, the latch switch is dirty or out of alignment. The latch switch is the knob you push up and down on the driver's door to lock (and arm- if you are equipped with a factory alarm).

Pull the door panel, clean out the latch switch with some plastic safe contact cleaner, and re-install- making sure that the latch assembly is lined up so that you can easily lock the door with the door panel on.

also be aware that if you have a factory alarm, it may false trigger or not arm (or both) until you clean and align the latch switch.

ok...that sounds about right. My factory alarm USED to work sporatically...sometimes setting itself off for no apparent reason, just a few seconds after locking up and leaving the car.

So, just check/clean the contacts on the driver's side, since it's the control for the whole system so to speak?

I don't have any "contact cleaner"...I assume I can pick some of this up at the local auto parts store?

thanks for the info.

Yep common example of the switch being dirty or out of alignment

Home depot, radio shack, some auto parts stores... radio shack or the like usually are the best bet.

I have a similar problem with my AE...the alarm works, but the power door lock does not. Where should I start?

My power lock doesn't work either. My security light flashes though. How do I know if my alarm works. Anyway to test it?

Test your alarm by having the window rolled half way down, and reach inside after the alarm shows it as armed, and open the door from the inside. Have fun!!!!!!!!

I have the passenger door panel off for window motor maintenance and I checked for power at the door latch. Should there be power at any of the three wires coming in at the lock slider? I am waiting for the FSM to load from fc3s so I can check the wiring, but I also thought I'd post the question here to see if anyone had an idea on it...
